Re: 2024 Olympic BASKETBALL Thread (Pt.3)
Giannis has got a really bad habit of not playing any defense at all when it matters for Greece. In Greece's 2022 EuroBasket loss to Germany in the quarterfinals, he played absolutely zero defense and got just torched the whole game long by numerous German players, especially on the perimeter, where he gave almost no defense at all, and kept getting 3s scored on him. It was an absolutely pathetic showing on defense by Giannis.
In the first Olympics game against Canada, in the 4th quarter, Giannis took off like 3 straight possessions on defense, and Canada was able to get back control of the game, after Greece was within 2. Then at the very end of the game, Giannis made that colossally stupid foul with Greece up 3, in the penalty, and with plenty of time to just play defense, and then get a good offense after that. Without that really dumb foul, the game might have gone to overtime.
Now, in the first half so far in the next game against Spain, which is practically a must win, he does the same thing he did in the 2022 EuroBasket semis against Germany, and comes out and plays absolutely horrendous defense. Gets dunked on by W. Hernangomez, gives up some easy layups around the rim, gets blown by against Llull for an easy layup, gives up multiple 3s on the perimeter, and pretty much was by far the worst player defensively on the court.
Giannis may be a big NBA star, but giving such pathetic effort on defense is inexcusable. Hopefully Spanoulis went off on him at halftime. Because his defense in the first half was absurd.

It's the NBA MVP, not the MVP of basketball. That said, it's a pity he was never able to develop a jump shot. Greece does look pretty terrible though. His team is significantly better than what prime Nowitzki had to play with for Germany, but still not very good.
This current Greek team is much better than most of the Greek teams that Vassilis Spanoulis and Nikos Zisis got stuck with for years and years. They had to deal with clearly much worse teams than this current Greek team for a long time. To be fair, Greece is missing like half of its best players at this tournament, but still no excuses really. Giannis has 9 EuroLeague main rotation guys on big EuroLeague teams, and 2 elite level EuroCup players on this team. That's like 5-10 times the talent level that Luka has with Slovenia for example, and probably like 3-4 times the talent those German Dirk teams had.

You will do well betting the opposite of his picks , made good money off his picks last W/C doing that.

I don't think I've ever seen Giannis play more than 8 straight minutes of basketball before.

Umm... what?? He had 34 in the last game against Canada. He'll likely have around 25/10 in this game and may still drag his team to the win.

I don't know my friend, I see a few too many wide open threes and the corpse of Lull having a party.

The scoring is great so far, but he can't play zero defense like he did at the end of the game against Canada and so far this whole game against Spain. It's like he thinks he's in the NBA, or on Team USA where the big stars like him can get away with that. He gave absolutely zero effort on defense so far this entire game.

Ref decided to stop calling offensive fouls against Giannis and Greece is within striking distance.

Giannis about to shut up Mirotic if this comeback is completed. What’s that now? 2 bad days on hating on the NBA and NBA players?

Started watching in the third. Lots of technical difficulties or is it just my broadcast? They seem to constantly lise the feed and just fill it same highlight footage.

You made so many excuses for Giannis' horrific defense after that loss to Germany in 2022, and now again. He is playing horrendously awful defense, and is the worst player on the court by far on defense. It is ridiculous to defend that and make excuses for him. He has the physical tools to be playing great defense and instead he's not even giving a 1% effort.
But yeah, if Spanoulis allows him to get away with that, it's a failure from him. Giannakis would have benched him after the first half and he wouldn't have played him again the rest of the game.
