Sure. But if youre a max guy, there's not much your agent can do. And you can get an agent to for everything besides your NBA contract

How do you think Bradley Beal got that no trade clause added to his contract? It wasn't out of the grace of Washington's heart.

Who's gonna negotiate SGA's rider that calls for the team to deliver 5 pounds of only green M&M's to his locker after every game?

Get a copy of other max contract players contracts. Hire a lawyer to make the changes necessary for you for $20,000. Done deal.

Isn't that their benefit though? You assume that when you have an agent, he will make you possibly more money than you can make on your own BECAUSE they are incentivized

I don’t understand why more stars don’t do this. You’re getting the max so why give an agent anything?

He can just hire an entertainment agent. Or a business agent. There’s no real need for a sports agent.

It does pose a good question; he still has representation from the agency though that's market-based opportunities in the states & across the globe.

j/k SGA

Agents are not lawyers.

Representing yourself doesn't mean that you cannot hire the best legal representation you can afford to advise you.

I never quite understood why not more players are going that route.

This is your career, you shouldn't leave it in the hands of people that have a vested interest in getting the most out of it for themselves.

Good on SGA and every other player that is going that route.

I love when players do this. Effectively telling your team you dare them to not supermax you, you don't intend to negotiate.

Smart move IMO. OKC gonna pay him regardless, so he might as well cut out the middleman (agent).

Interesting thing here. His supermax won’t kick in until
he’s 29. So basically 29-34 on a supermax.

Does that make sense? Will SGA be worth a supermax at that age?

Makes sense. What's the point of having an agent if you are a max player? I suppose there are shoe deals, commercials and other things you'd might want an agent for. I suppose it's possible a player could have an agent for non basketball deals.

But yeah, if you are a max player, you are just giving money away. It's not like they can negotiate a better deal for you.

Easily, barring injury. That includes some of his prime years and as long as he takes care of himself, he should still be playing close to peak performance at 34.

I know in the past some players have unique pay structures. If I remember right, Kobe got 80% of his annual salary like on the first day of the regular season, and then got his remaining salary in the 2nd half of the year. It's probably not worth paying an agent $10 million just for that though.

That's a good point. Allen Iverson would be broke if his agent didn't have the foresight to defer a lot of his contract.
