Why does the NBA decorate a useless in-season tourney more than the Finals?

They tried to "over decorate" the NBA Cup to attract investment dollars - pure and simple. They don't need to that for The Finals. It's the Emirates NBA Cup - Emirates is the airline from Dubai pure ploy to attract the capital.

It doesn't need to be a full cartoon gimmick fest like the Tournament is but a simple design like the trophy or "The Finals" written on the court like it was 10 years ago would suffice. Those were fire and added a touch to the Finals that last nights game was lacking.

I never loved the trophy at mid-court, it seemed a bit much to me. I'd love to see the old-school Finals logos with the cursive font that they used from the mid-80s to the mid-90s:

ESPN's production, analysts, and commentators actively make the finals worse for viewers to watch. Something needs to be done. The finals should not be on ESPN.

ESPN is awful for every sport they have rights to. I get the sense that ESPN hates this matchup and feels that even if the quality of the games are good that it won't get the engagement/viewership that a bigger market matchup would, so they are half-assing it. Completely bush league on their part, but not surprising. They wanted a Finals where they could pan to the crowd and have a bunch of celebrities to make it feel important, and things like that. Their view on sports is just not good for the leagues themselves. The NBA had the option to move on from ESPN to something else for equal money during their media rights talks and decided to stay with them, so that's on Silver.

Yup. It is 100% on Silver.

New media package should have been NBC, TNT, and Amazon. ESPN's coverage of the league has steadily gotten worse the last decade. Even at their peak, ESPN was always step behind TNT, let alone NBC.

Silver is an absolute buffoon. The massive TV contracts have masked how poor of a job he's done. Everyone equates rising TV revenue and salaries as evidence he's doing a good job but that TV money is only happening because there's streaming wars. Actual ratings are way down and the league has lost a lot of fans, many for good, because of the product on the court and unlikable players. The Finals should be treated like a two week long Super Bowl. Sadly, it's treated like an afterthought. The All-Star game can't be fixed because he's allowed the players to run the league. They're lazy, entitled and unlikeable and lack heart so they don't even try and be competitive. This mind-numbingly stupid in-season tournament is a joke. Player movement, load-management, rigged drafts, etc it's all combining to produce a lackluster product and it's all on his watch.

Mike is the best in the business and when you had Van Gundy as his second you have an all time cast. Unfortunately Mark sucked but now you replace him with two horrible casters.
