Durant will be 37 at the start of the season and is in the last year of his contract. The Spurs would be absolutely insane to trade Fox AND a pick for him.

Phoenix was 3-17 with him injured (literally the worst team in the NBA by record) and 33-29 when he played. The impact is pretty dramatic.

I wouldn’t consider adding KD to a young core because your future is dependent on your young core hopefully not becoming like him attitude-wise.
I’d only consider him for a prime or older team looking to make a big swing to win a chip next year.

Re: Spurs could be scary with KD.
What would we gv Phoenix for him?
He's too old, injury prone. We'd be wasting each other's time TBH.
Spurs are very young and under a new coach.
Spurs aren't there yet.
He's better off on already contending team. A slightly older team needing a boost like Minn, Indiana, Magic, Rockets etc. Still younger teams, but already further than the Spurs are at now.
But, I could be wrong.
Although, to me. Just seems like an odd fit.
Maybe back to OKC?

You can argue that alone is fair value for a aging KD. Throw in the #14 pick and maybe Vassell tho that might be an overpay.
The Spurs can realistically go into next season with Harper/Castle/Wemby + KD.![]()
That's crazy to think about. The Spurs could very well be the favorites heading into next season.
Woah.... slow down there, buckaroo.

you obviously don't consider giving up Harper or Castle for KD.
There's no way Suns trade KD without getting one of them in return.
the Suns options are to trade KD for some secondary assets like Jalen Green or Vassell + #14, trade him for another vet player like Julius Randle, or not trade KD at all and let him walk for nothing next summer. They are never getting premium assets like Amen Thompson or Castle for a 36 year-old KD, that's just never happening.
The end result of all of this is not going to be some bidding war for KD, it's going to be the Suns gradually lowering and lowering their price until they finally reach a level where other teams are willing start negotiating.
I don't disagree with any of this, but again, Suns are not giving him up unless they get more than that.

Castle has more trade value than KD.
No team is trading a <25 year old borderline blue chip talent (which Castle is) for a 37 year old.

looks like Suns fans are still in denial phase. they're like the guy who bid 200k over asking for a house at the top of the market, gets tired of living in it and are shocked that nobody is biting when they try to sell it for the same price

If somehow the thunder were to lose in finals, they could trade for him and his arc of returning back and assisting a mvp to get his title would be noteworthy. His place in history would be something to argue about in the coming decades esp if he gets a finals mvp.

Re: Spurs could be scary with KD.
I think that, should the package be relatively reasonable, trading for Kevin Durant is an absolute no-brainer for San Antonio. People drastically underrate the value of accelerating the development of young stars through the Playoffs.
De'Arron Fox / Stephon Castle / ??? / Kevin Durant / Victor Wembanyama
As a starting line-up with the #2 overall pick and multiple other players (depending on what is sent out for Kevin Durant) is an awesome starting point, with plenty of flexibility to fill around.

KD won't sign a long term deal so it actually works for SAS for financial flexibility. Fox is the inferior player that will command a 5 year max deal, not KD.
Do not drink the Fox kool aid like SAC did. He is mediocre at best and not a winning player

Op is right.
KD at the 4 with Wemby as defensive anchor would be lights out.
As long as they don’t have to give up much. I think it gets them in championship contention

You guys are gonna think I’m nuts, but I’d rather give up the #2 pick for Markannen than the #14 for KD.
He fits the timeline better and the Spurs desperately need some defense, which KD no longer provides.

I was going to say something very similar. I think people are sleeping on KD. He's not a leader but if you add him to a team that's primed and ready to win, he would be a most welcomed mercenary. He still has top 10 talent on any given night.
But based on his age, adding him to a young team that is not ready to win yesterday, makes zero sense to me as well.

You like to tank and most likely got the draft lottery rigged for you...calm it down brody.
Spurs would be lucky to get KD and he'd pair well with Wemby as a savvy vet.

We're talking Ainge though, the asking price will be far greater than just #2.

Re: Spurs could be scary with KD.
Wemby needs to prove that he can stay healthy. Can he sustain the level of play he showed for an entire season? His impact was inline with a top 5-to-10 player; his defense is DPOY-worthy but not yet all-time level. I'm not sure he reaches the lofty expectations many have for his defense. Although he has unmatched tools, defense requires effort, physicality, IQ, awareness, and decision-making. Will the motor be there with such a large offensive responsibility? There's no guarantee he becomes game-breaking on that end. And he isn't right now.
