Durant won't be declining anytime soon... last season he averaged 26.6 points, .527 field, .430 threes, 1.2 blocks.
He's a better shooter in his old age, than he was back in the OKC days.
Because he's so tall, and shoots so great, he doesn't need mobility...
And the last 2 years he played 75 games and 62 games, which are his 2 best years of attendance since missing the entire 2019-20 season.
Depends on the accumulation of lower leg injuries over the years but it’s hard to imagine him not being at least a version of Rashard Lewis into his 40’s.

Houston has been waiting to win a title since Hakeem, so they're paying KD to get them over the next hump, amd that's why he is worth this. He is worth more actually and he provides the Rockets with a good return in profit.Chuck Everett wrote:Should have been 2/60-70. Too much bread for him at this stage.

me 2
I was a little down on them after FVV went down but after seeing them play, seeing the huge leap that Sheppard has made and how much better Amen's jumpshot is already looking..I like them alot this year and I think they''re just as likely to win the West as OKC or Den
specifically, I think they match-up incredibly well vs. OKC in a series. absolute nightmare of a team to play against, with a great coach too
legit contender this year

kawhi ruined any chance of him getting a paycut publicly and a kickback privately

That was never happening. Also, by taking less than a full max, the Rockets have the cap space to extend Tari Eason and stay under the second apron.

yeah no brainer I aint paying KD 90mil for one full year of basketball and no ring....yeah no brainer...
signing KD for 2 years....?

if they don't win a ring or KD gets hurt and misses 82 games over these 2 years and instead of developing the studs they have they get on the KD treadmill.....while Boston retools behind Tatum, the Lakers retool behind Luka and OKC focuses on building more around SGA you gonna need to to make the title level jump before Giannis gets to a new team (most likely next year) or while Jokic is still lurking and before AD, Flagg and Kyrie or Antman can put it all together...I just don't know if this makes sense

KD’s the only reason that they’re even talked about as a title contender. KD doesn’t have to score 30 every night, he doesn’t have to create every night, he doesn’t even have to guard even the 2nd best player on the other team most night and he doesn’t have to be a leader because Udoka has that covered.
KD is aging like Steph and Lebron where he’s still playing at an allstar level. The team can afford to keep his minutes low during the regular season because all that matters is that he’s ready in the playoffs. Unfortunately Van Vleet got injured or else this team would be a real contender instead of an outside shot. And they still have enough assets to bring in another allstar player. The title window is now, it would be stupid to trade for KD and not extend him

Anyone who thinks this is an overpay is out of their mind lol. He's making less then Paul Geroge and averaging 10 more points then him. The only concern is his age but KD has shown enough longevity to justify that price. It's only two years, they can eat that even if he declines by the end of it.

How does extending Durant prohibit the Rockets from developing Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson, along with Tari Eason, Jabaei Smith Jr. and Reed Sheppard? Sengun and Thompson are both going to start and be the second and third scoring options on offense with Sengun serving as the Rockets primary facilitator. Jabari Smith Jr. will be starting, and Tari Eason is locked in to a 25 minute role as a defensive maestro off the bench. There are also plenty of minutes available for Reed Sheppard.
Plus, with Durant taking a discount, the Rockets can extend Tari Eason and stay under the second apron. The Rockets weren’t going to have the cap space to sign a max-level free agent if they let Durant walk after the season, either.

KD is going to take the shots that matter, KD is going to be the focus of the offense when they need a bucket and KD going to be the passive aggressive vet that takes jabs at the team or teammates with his burner accounts. I expect KD to be hurt enough that they will always he waiting for his return.

Why can’t they improve organically like OKC and win with this roster as they age without KD?

Because the player you name who is on an SGA-like trajectory will get you laughed at.

Of course, Durant is going to take the shots that matter and be the focus of the Rockets’ offense when they need a bucket. That’s precisely what they were missing last year and need him to do. Neither Sengun nor Thompson have shown they are ready to be a number one offensive option on a championship-caliber team. Moving them down a peg on offense will take pressure off of them and hopefully enable them to thrive.
The Rockets needed a number one offensive option and got one of the most efficient scorers of all time to fill that role.
As for Durant being a passive aggressive vet taking shots at teammates from a burner social media account, or you think he’s going to be hurt quite often during his Rockets’ tenure, it may happen, it may not. We don’t know.
Any player can get hurt, young or old (look at Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Halliburton for further proof). Likewise, Durant had the Rockets on his short list of teams he wanted to play for if he left Phoenix. He also respects Ime Udoka.
Will this move work out? We shall see. But, the Rockets needed an efficient scorer like Kevin Durant to run their offense through, and they now have one. I’m very optimistic about their chances of contending during this window.
