I have seen that movie once, I am not really a fan, also haven't read material it is based on. I remember young Pacino explaining his girlfriend about this, explaining how his don made offer the guy couldn't refuse, but I am not sure this quote you are saying is in a movie, I feel it is one of those things where everyone assumes its a quote from a movie altho its not. No caring father would watch their son fail in college and think the NBA is a good idea.
Helping his son would be sending him back to college or into a foreign league to gain experience.

And during that time they would assess whether their son is good enough for the NBA, or whether their son will be ridiculed for nepotism forever.
Austin Rivers proved himself in college (!5.5ppg) before entering the NBA, that is not the case with Bronny.

And it makes even less sense just after a cardiac arrest, when there as no logical reason to rush Bronny into the NBA, since his father clearly was not retiring last season... because that's what this is really about, LeBron wanting Bronny in the NBA for LeBron.
