But but but... I was told they are a contender, and Kawhi is "finally" healthy, and the new acquisitions "added" so many "wins".
I'm sorry for their 3-4 real fans on this board, you don't deserve it, but in the grand scheme of things - Ballmer, Intuit and Aspirations partnering, Kawhi, their GMing - I can't say I'm not happy to see this team being a failure.

No pick in 2026 (to OKC or Washington).
2027: Least favorable of OKC, DEN and their own pick (so they won't have their own pick).
2028: No pick (goes to Philly)
Looks very bleak.
Good news for Philly. They have a better future than they should considering the terrible moves and bad luck they have had.
Definitely, I thought Philly would be going through purgatory for many years. But it doesn't look that bad now. By the time they have to pay Edgecombe and McCain, Embiid and PG are off the books or they can be bought out. And they will be fairly competitive until then. In three years they'll have a good young core and control all their picks, unless they do something dumb in the meantime.

"Deepest team in the league".
Yeah, maybe deepest team at playing scrabble in the retirement home.

Re: So...When Will Clippers Blow It Up?
I never thought they'd win a championship this year but the start out of the gate is a bit surprising. That said, it's early to be giving up on them. They were very good in the playoffs last year and are still going to get in this year. (Chris Paul looks washed though, not sure why anyone would have expected much from him.)
Not to pile on Ty Lue, but I never understood why people speak of him so highly. He always seemed, I dunno, fine, but nothing spectacular. People in the media who supposedly know constantly talk about what a great coach he is.

Re: So...When Will Clippers Blow It Up?
I think Zubac should round out to form again, like today from the Suns game that's a good sign.
But I think losing Norm and assuming Beal would be able to replicate that instant scoring was a major misfire that may haunt them sooner than later. Powell, Harden, and Zu just those 3 alone were able to keep the team afloat and be competitive with anyone for a major part of the season till Kawhi came back. This year it feels way different with James being even older and how they still rely so much on him and Beal looking straight washed.
Red flags are that Kawhi and Beard have actually started the season healthy and they haven't really beaten anyone of note together + have had some pretty damning losses beside it being early.
Yeah, championship coaches of the last 5-10 years have been fired for less. I truly think they may be in impasse with Ty Lue where this is not acceptable anymore.

Maybe Ty Lue was mistakenly added as CC to some of the emails between Ballmer and Aspiration, so now he can finish with the worst record in the West and still hold on to his job.

Nah they need to cash in whatever assets they still have and roll the dice ASAP

They'll probably try ride it out to get control of their picks back and then bottom out/tank. However Ballmer also strikes me as an owner that wouldn't want to tank, especially with all the money that was just poured into a new arena.

Every year the old teams start slow and end strong but we keep forgetting that and going through this hamster wheel of a thought process.

Tyronn Lue has a 59% win percentage. Trent Redden won't fire Tyronn Lue because it will only create another avoid to correct.
Trent Redden should receive some criticism for putting this team together. He can fix the problem since he's the GM.
Brook Lopez has been cooked but the fans saying it now didn't seem to care when Giannis had him as his starting center.

Re: So...When Will Clippers Blow It Up?
I find it funny that a lot of people are hating on Ty Lue rather than recognizing this roster is cheeks.
Also, Ty Lue had a coach a team where he his 2 best players (Kaw-why Am I Playing Tonight and Pandemic P) were out of the lineup more than they were in.
Serious question, over an extended period of time could a coach have more success than Lue who gets his team into the playoffs in the West, when your best players don't even suit up?
I'm not saying Lue is the best coach in the league, I'm just saying the Clippers situation sucks and no coach is fixing it, not Daigneualt, Carilse, Spo (we saw the success Miami had last year with a similar toxic situation), etc.

A bunch of these dudes can just retire and then Kawhi can have his contract voided omce the investigation concludes. Boom, built in reset lol

Re: So...When Will Clippers Blow It Up?
Probably about 18 months ago.
Now they have no real assets aside from Zubac.
They do have the advantage of being in a city where they can attract feee agents. They could probably get a couple picks for Harden and Kawhi and try to rebuild the war chest. Not having a pick this year hurts.

He's probably the new Doc Rivers 2.0. Gets along with star players, used to play in the league, media friendly, has a ring and some Finals appearances, can overachieve when there aren't expectations.

Lawrence Frank is the head of basketball operations, not Trent Redden. If anyone is at fault, it's him.

Re: So...When Will Clippers Blow It Up?
Never.
They will keep going for decades...everybody will think they will suck and are too old, they will somehow do good in the regular season, and then get bounced in the 1st round.
A blessing and a curse.

Re: So...When Will Clippers Blow It Up?
It's funny that the Clippers and Kings essentially seem to be doing the same thing if you look at their main players at the moment. Clippers should blow it up but they won't. If anyone knows Ballmer's history he's very stubborn so it doesn't surprise me that he continues this borderline fascination with Kawhi and has even doubled down at times. I also think he has an inferiority complex when it comes to the Lakers so a full on rebuild in his mind puts them even further back behind the Lakers in the LA sports landscape. He like everyone else remembers the apathy of most of the Sterling years and has probably vowed that will never happen again under his ownership. It's no coincidence that the Clippers are looking at 2027 and will probably look to get two big FAs like they did with Kawhi/George.
