Spurs might not win this year (ofc this year it's OKC vs the field), but their window is wide open, especially if they build around Harper and not Fox as their second banana.

What? They can pay, they payed for worse teams in the westbrook triple double era

And they have contract flexibility to duck the apron whenever they want. And next season they'll have at last two "rookies" drafted in the teens yet to débito, plus maybe more depending on how the jazz, 76ers and clippers season play out

Since 2011-2012 (per sportac.com data) they were in the luxury tax 5 times, paying a total $106M (with the highest ever number being $61M in 2018-2019).
Their contract "flexibility" means losing 2-3-4 players (depending who) to cut the tax to $100M and losing another player or two to eliminate it entirely.
Also, when they "payed for worse teams in the westbrook triple double era" - there were no 1st/2nd aprons to further limit your appetite to spend.

I think each organization has one big trade in them before we know what the next 5 years looks like.

Spurs tried with Fox. Jury’s still out if that was correct consolidation of assets trade. Who will be the next one? Spurs need to find a young (Fox age or younger) perfect fitting player to set the roster during Wemby’s prime.

Thunder have so many assets it’s ridiculous. As early as this offseason, Presti needs to make a trade. I actually am surprised in the last few drafts he hasn’t consolidated picks to move around draft more. Not questioning the man with greatest draft success history, but just a numbers game. Both in $ and roster spots for so many draft picks. Maybe he has been saving up for the 2026 draft. Moving up for one of the top picks. AJ, Boozer, or even Ament would be amazing fits and keep infusing top end talent to OKC roster (and on rookie contract).

I think CBA will prevent OKC from become a 5 year dinasty, they will hve to let some key pieces go (while keeping SGA, J Dub, Chet). BUT they have a ton of picks and a great draft team, will try to replace production of Dort/IHart with rookie scale salary, probably. Maybe they keep Ihart next year and go ove second appron.

They also have (potentially) 5 top 30 picks this year with possibly 2 of them in the top 12 in an absolutely loaded draft.

Ontop of some banked talent like Topic and Sorber.

Their backup guard looks like Brunson 2.0 at the moment.

Presti is the best GM in the league and they are in that strong of a position in terms of talent, they can probably afford to break up the edges of the team (I.e Hartenstein, Caruso, Dort, Wallace, maybe a Chet or Jdub or Mitchell) in 18-24 months and build up the biggest pick warchest in the league 2.0, while still being a perennial contender year on year.

Teams will pay huge for the likes of Wallace, Mitchell, Dort etc in a few seasons and Presti will laugh all the way to the draft.

It’s not even hyperbole to say I think he has them in a position (in terms of assets) to contend the next 10 seasons if he nails this upcoming draft, like he normally does…

My gut feeling is this won’t even be viewed as the best OKC team in 10 years time, my feeling is that team peaks in around 3-4 years from now once this draft class gets some experience and is blended with the likes of JDUB, Chet and SGA as actual vets
