Uhm, he sucks, for one. Funny guy, sure, but you probably only defend him because he writes a column for ESPN, not because of basketball.

Sure he sucks but he aint no goody 2 shoes.

No tolerency.

Does anyone actually care if players smoke weed? I mean, it's a drug the majority of the American population wants to legalize, and yet the NBA is supposed to have strong punishment for above the ridiculous legal stuff? Nah, stick to the the important stuff.

Agreed... if they want to go get high before a game, who cares? It's their performance that will suffer... that's punishment enough.

Why would the league enforce a dress policy that doesn't effect play on the court? Because Stern cares about league image, or atleast he wants to appear as if he cares.

Not really sure what that has to do with enforing weed the same as steroids.

I wonder how many players are using things like HGH, and epo though. They would drastically help players recover, run faster, and longer. HGH can't be tested for in any way that gives definitive proof of use either.

Well Stern has been very strict in enforcing the "no smoking blunts in the arena" rule. If they are getting high as **** at home, who cares.

Just to play devils advocate to all those who claim its only weed.

As a paying customer, who has season tickets, I think I may have a right to know whteher or not the 'entertainers' I'm paying to go see are high or not. This is basketball so smoking weed can only inhibit your reaction time and make you a worse player then if you played sober. If we want the best production on the court, one of the reason I spend my money, then testing for marijuana more often may in fact curb the use.

*** Note only posted to play the other side of the argument. I in fact don't care whether or not the players are high on the court. I've played ball many times myself and have seen many players, who claimed to have been high, do some amazing things on the court. Weed use from my experience may provide some creativity but the body tends to tire more if you are high. In the NBA, however these are world class athletes so I'm not sure if smoking marijuana would effect their stamina.

As far as smoking recreationally off the court. Who gives a

Didn't Keon Clark say he drank before every game? I wouldn't be suprised if some players did. But I really don't care. If it hurts them, (which I don't really know if it would) they'd be robbing themselves of contract dollars.

Give Wade the Max has a point. But there's really no way of testing them to know when they're doing it short off putting out a table of food before the game and waiting to see's hoarding all the funions.

i highly doubt NBA players actually PLAY high. if anything, they just smoke a nice, fat blunt after the game. but NEVER during or before the game.

Yeah, Clark did and so did Eddie Griffin. But I think it would be hard as **** to play high. And if they can get away with playing drunk, then hell, let them get high too.

I don't think its as bad as a problem today as the younger generation tend not to compromise the integrity of the game. The younger generation seems much more team-focused. They care about winning and seem to have good judgement.

I think the NBA's marijuana issue stems from the post Jordan stars(Sheed, Damon, Webber,Miles)all getting caught high. That generation seemed to be content with the CTC(cut the check) attitude. They figured they were being paid like stars and could take certain indiscretions.

I will respect no one that uses a drug and I would want them banned from any professional sport.

Ignorant people would legalize it, just like alcohol.

I think the point of having the Mary-J policy is simple.

Stern wants the THug image to go away. He also wants to look like hes doing something about it. So if he didnt have the policy people would be complaining. So they have it, and make is weak, hoping that no one will notice.
