(sarcasm) and to the guy who laughed at the "budding" superstars comment, how can u question that possibility when 2 of the guys are in their 2nd years and still improving (one reigning rookie of the year), and the 3rd guy was dubbed the next great american big man when he was still in high school... ok its not confirmed by any stretch, but its not out of the question at all, as i said theyre still budding.. wait til they hit their primes in 4-5 yrs this is a team u can root for, they all seem like good guys

Not likely, not likely at all. But if Oden turns out as good as everybody thinks, they'll be one of the better West teams for a long time. Assuming players stay healthy, re-sign in Portland, management surrounds them with the right role players, etc.

Joe Johnson didn't want to be the man. He wanted to be the paid man. If the Suns had offered more to begin with, he wouldn't have complained at all.

I won't go so far as to predict it, but they have the best chance of any of the other teams at the moment to become one.

Unless we see a repeat of SAS, where their star player (robinson) goes down for the season, the team sucks, wins the lottery, and comes up with one of the greatest players at their position of all time.

But even then there have already been a built in checking system for that.

The general manager of the Blazers has built a 'culture' full of people who can interact and get along with each other (he came from the Spurs, so he's obviously adopted the same 'culture' that is working over there). So this team isn't going to be about superstardom. As well as that, they are a team who are all pretty much in the same age category and will grow in a "family atmosphere" as Nate McMillian likes to call it.

Tie that in with the richest owner in all sports and I don't see why anyone would want to leave.


But you never know. With so many talented players, some people will feel the need to blossom somewhere else.

This is a very unselfish team. I haven't heard anyone talk about wanting to be the man, leaving, etc. If the players live up to their potential, Paul Allen will dish out the cash to keep them here. He's done it before, but backed off cuz they started to suck. If they show to be true champions, I can't imagine him letting anyone go.

The Blazers have more potential than any team in the NBA and yes, they might become a dynasty if everything goes right for them but it's too early to tell. We can talk again after they win a championship.

random fact of the day.... the three youngest teams in the NBA are ALL in the Northwest division. Blazers are the youngest... Utah is the second youngest... and Seattle is the third youngest.... and Melo is 22.... The NW (thought of as the worst division a couple seasons back) could be the next SW division.

As of right now... it would look like it HOWEVER... There's no sure thing is professional sports. What happens in a couple of years when all of them are going to want a new contract? What will happen if some of the young guys think they're getting overshadowed and want to go elsewhere for a bigger role and spotlight? I can go on and on about the different things that could happen in a couple of years. As a raptor fan, we were thinking the same thing with Tmac and Vince and well... everyone knows how that played out. When the players are young... all they care about is winning but after a couple of years in the league, they soon realize that there's more to the NBA than just basketball. You also have agents that get in players heads and tell them that they could get a bigger role elsewhere and thus, get a bigger contract, maybe shoe deal, be on a magazine, etc
