I always disagreed with people who have said he's better than Joe Johnson, mainly because he has had some good games against Joe. I have no doubts that the Spurs would be a better team with Joe instead of Manu.

Just because Manu is INJURED right now doesn't mean he's overrated...

I don't think he's overrated. He's a great player on a great team. If he was on a bad team, he'd probably average around 25 ppg. I think that guys like Kevin Martin and Joe Johnson could replace him though.

An absurd majority of people think he's better than both those guys.

It is funny X years ago I remember people saying that he was no better than Jamal Crawford. The fact is that he is a proven winner at all levels of basketball. He plays a significant role on a championship team and there are very few players that can replace his role on the Spurs. He could have very well been the MVP in 2005, but hey lets hate on him right?

He can get very close to Kobe, and even be more productive in some situations.

That said, Kobe is the only SG I can consider taking over him, Wade is the other when healthy.

Manu this season as the first/second option.

Without TD he averaged 26ppg, 5reb, 4 ast (4 games)

Without TP he averaged 21ppg, 6reb, 6 ast (13 games)

Has he, can he, will he have better games than Kobe. Of course but one game here, one game there doesn't mean he is as good as Kobe or has the same impact as Kobe.

Consistency is the key here.

Manu is the second best SG behind Kobe.. no question.. when T-Mac takes his team to the next level, we'll talk..

TMac has notoriously disappeared in the last quarters when it matters, whereas Ginobli has traditionally elevated his game in the 4th..

Pierce is not a SG.. SF is his natural position..

After Kobe, Manu is the best SG in the league.. no question..

I'm going to say this. I would rather have Kobe on my team than Ginobili. That's it. There is no other player that I would rather have.

The only thing keeping me from loving Ginobili, is his love for flopping. If we're talking about playoff performances, he's actually one of the top SG/SFs in the league. He always steps up his game to a new level in the post season. He reminds me of a Doug Christie with a lot more scoring ability, because he does a decent job leading the team and running point at his size.

AI is undersized and can't play under Pop.

Wade is injury prone and can't hit the 3.

Carter lacks the killer instinct that Ginobili has.

TMac is injury prone and can't play under Pop.

Allen is getting old.

Hamilton lacks the killer instinct that Ginobili has and can't hit the 3.

Johnson lacks the killer instinct that Ginobili has.

Redd can't play D.

This playoffs and last, his numbers are even or down across the board in relation to the regular season.

Kevin Martin is no where near Manu's level

Manu is sometimes overrated but very often underrated. How can you explain this guy not even making the all-star game this year?

Tell that to the Celtics. On the Spurs Joe wouldn't be doubled every time he touched the ball and being on a winning team would fuel his fire.

You guys pick the exact time when he's forcing himself to play injured during the WCF to make this thread. Is he playing like crap right now? Yeah, he's obviously not himself. Just looking at him during game 1 of the WCF, one can tell there's something wrong....be it the ankle (mostly) or the wrap on his shooting finger (partly). People forget what he did against the Suns and Pistons when the Spurs won it all. '05 Manu during the playoffs was an absolute superstar. He made the big superstar plays, he made all the clutch shots.

If you ask me if he's the same player he was back then, I'd have to say no because of age and wear and tear on his body but he's still one of the best players in the league when healthy. Those spectacular Manu plays/shots aren't as frequent anymore and I think Spurs fans wouldn't argue that.

All of those who think he was overrated have no long term memory at all.
