I loved Petro when he was in Denver. Would have kept him, but the Nets offered more than he was realistically worth. We always played him over Malik Allen, who was downright garbage and useless. Don't know much about Earl Clark, but id imagine Petro would help more for a contending team than a second year guy with no experience.

So, what the Nets are tryin to do? To turn from one of the youngest teams in the league to one of the oldest overnight?

Dumb russian.

That's just terrible deal for the Nets.

Man, Billy King is truly the worst GM of all time.

Nets-Pistons nearing agreement on terms of Hamilton-Murphy component - still debating Petro --- but overall deal is "real close," source says

looks like this might be done pretty damn soon.

Any confirmation on Melo actually signing the extention? Of course NJ won't make the deal if he doesn't extend .. (I hope )

logic says NJ wouldn't be going to these lengths if they had any indications that melo wouldn't extend with them.

melo could easily get on the phone with his agent and say "i want to go to new york, period"....and his agent could forward that to the nuggets FO & new jersey FO.....but it obviously hasn't happened.

If the deal in the WT goes through that will be one of the best returns I have ever seen for an expiring superstar who has made it clear he won't be resigning with his team.

Sources: Proposed deal is 'melo, billups, hamilton, carter to NJ for harris, favors, uzoh, graham and picks. Murphy and Petro to DET.

Detroit wants to take Petro with Murphy, but only sweetened with a first-round pick, source says.

Exactly. And I could have swore so many people said the Nuggets' FO was stupid and was handling it extremely poorly. Guess again.

This is a great deal for all teams involved.

Pistons: WIN WIN WIN. Rip leaving is the ultimate win in this trade. If they have to take on Petro no big deal as he or Maxiell can be packaged away at the deadline with Tay.

Denver: Get what they've wanted all along.

NJ: Become an instant competitor in the east overnight and then in 2 years when Rip will expire will have massive cap space to play around with before Melo's final year (assuming he signs a three year extension).

These guys are killing their future just to have a small chance at re-signing Melo.

Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Anthony Morrow (intriguing guy with Karl's bbal) and two first-round picks, in return for an expiring superstar: considered how forced it is, this is a pretty good trade for the Nuggets.

Detroit does a nice job too in terms of salaries. About the Nets.. well, they get who they wanted, one of the best players of the league: not sure about what Rip and CB still have in their tanks though, and that could be very important when it comes to keep Melo long-term.

I cannot believe Nuggets will get that much assets for a leaving star....

I say it falls through....

Melo seriously wants to sign with the Knicks... not Nets.

Nets if they do get Melo

C: Lopez
F: Humpries
F: Anthony
G: Hamilton
G: Billups? (He wants a buyout)

How is that better than what he has with the Nuggets at the moment?

How does the proposed trade even work under the cap? The Nets are taking on $43 million in salary and only sending out $32mill. They don't currently have any cap space to soak up the difference.....what am I missing here?

125% rule means they can send out 43 and take back 34.5ish. Woj just tweeted Shelden Williams would also go to NJ taking them up to 33 out, and NJ has a little capspace left to do the rest

This answers why Rip and Billups are involved btw. It makes the deal so big that Denver can cut like 10 mil of lux tax off just with the 125% rule

Why is it so hard for people here to understand basic logic?

The Nets are not gambling on Melo signing with them. He's gotta sign the extension immediately. Also what future?

Devin Harris is nearing 30. He's not gonna get any better. Derrick Favors although he has shown potential is probably not gonna be an all-star player in the near future. And they are only giving up 2 picks. Their own this year and GS's. That really isn't that much at all considering they have plenty of more incoming picks over the next few years.
