I don't think that they can protect the pick, because they could owe their 2012 pick to OKC, depending how they finish (lets say that they protect it top 3 this year and Clippers will have that pick, next year Clippers would finish above Minnesota and not in top 10 (OKC will have the less favorable of Clippers and Timberwolves pick, top 10 protected), so thus both OKC and CLE would both be eligible for that pick, which is illegal).
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

I cant beleive Clippers gave up an unprotected first to acquire Mo WIlliams (who sucks)

they have young talent, but their owner and front office is going to screw it up.

To all of those saying that Baron is going to be fat, lazy, and unmotivated and they dont understand why the Cavs would want him....

More losses baby!!!

2 top 8 or so picks this year plus another top 3 pick next year? Sign me up.

Let Baron chuck 3's next year and help us lose some more games. Hell, him and Jamison can have a contest to see who shoots more for all I care. The great news is that it will only last 1 more year and then they will be nothing but a distant memory and our 3 lotto picks will be rocking and rolling.

I dont know if anyone has checked but the Cavs have stock piled quite an impressive amount of draft picks over the next 3-4 years and by recent reports they arent done yet.

Off course. No one denies that. That was a great move by Cavs.

I'd love to see baron Davis fail to report. Followed by the Cavs thanking him profusely and not paying his contract.

How does this draft suck? I've seen mock drafts with guys like harrison barnes and derick williams going in the 8-10 range...compared to last year thats a big step up

this isnt good for blake griffin. i havent watched many games, but it seems like griffin and davis clicked pretty well....
baron davis will either be EXTRA motivated to get some wins or completely disgruntled and tank the 2nd half of the season.

the clippers made a mistake on this one. their GM isnt really good at making decisions like this. they just got lucky that they beat odds to draft griffin

Is there a chance that Davis will agree to a very nice buy-out? Maybe something like $10 million over the next 2 years?

A lot of that perception is driven by the lack of star power at the top of the draft. No LeBron/Durant types this year. There is going to be legitimate NBA talent 1-10....its just guys that will (best case) top out as all-stars rather than superstars.

As for the deal - unbelievably good for Cleveland. Absolutely incredible.

Wow. I cant believe the Clippers did this. B Diddy had some chemistry going with Blake. Mo is a bust and always has been.

Great trade for Cleveland though. They lost their depressed overemotional scrub and got a decent veteran PG in return. If Scott can keep a close watch on Davis, this might turn out great for them.

This is amazing. I got killed a few weeks ago for saying players don't want to go to Cleveland, and this thread has been 15 pages of people talking about a guy offing himself rather than doing it.

It's just a dumb meme. I understand talk of Baron Davis not wanting to play for a bad team, but the talk of Cleveland being a crap hole is stupid. It's not any worse than a lot of other NBA cities. It's no NYC or Miami, but it's not terrible either.

Clippers MUST be hoping to make a run at Deron or Chris Paul.

if not, I don't like them giving up an unprotected pick.

Who the hell cares about Baron Davis? The Cavs didn't trade for Baron Davis, they traded for the unprotected first-rounder. Davis was a throw-in as far as the Cavs were concerned.

The thread title should be "Cavs trade Mo Williams for 1st round pick." And then in the footnotes, we can talk about the Davis throw-in. Cavs don't care about that dude and hope that he retires, quits, whatever. Then they don't have to pay his stupid ass and the pick was free.

Great trade for the Cavs.

Yep,

Cavs FO is probably on the phones right now and trying to dump his ass for expirings, cause obviously, they don't need him nor his contract.
