Im amused about the great amount of PFs the Rockets had last year, yet it is still their weakest position.

Asik is a decent player for Houston, but let's not go overboard. He's not going to be any teams savior at center.

As for Dwight going to Houston, I agree that the pairing of him with Harden isn't going to work. Harden likes to shoot just like Kobe does. He takes 22 shots a game. What's he going to say when Dwight demands the ball? No?

1 - Clips trade Bledsoe to Toronto for Derozan

2 - Rockets trade Lowry to Toronto for Asik

Asik
Val
Gay
Ross
Bledsoe

Asik-Valanciunas is a horrible fit. No spacing at all.

One can argue that Asik was at least top 6-8 center last season, he might not a savior to a team, but the guy is an above average starting center.

Harden played with Westbrook and Durant in OKC, he never made any comment about wanting to shoot more or the ball more. What makes you think he can't adapt? It wasn't the playing time that got him traded, it was OKC unwilling to paid him.

If Kobe and Shaq could make it work... Not that Harden and Howard are anything close to what Kobe/Shaq were.

But Kobe and Howard sure didn't. Kobe had some great games with 10 assists or more.
But they still didn't work out.
And Kobe is a better shooter than harden.

You do understand that the Lakers switched coach twice? Or Gasol missed some time? Or Nash missed some time also? Or Howard was not completely 100%? Or that the Lakers did go 28-12 or something to finish the season? It didn't work because they didn't have enough time.

Center position is a bit overrated these days, and you can still do a lot without having a dominant center on both ends of the floor. Still, having Asik can easily elevate a team from contender status to championship status. For instance, if the last season's Bulls had him, they would have made things a lot more miserable for the Heat.

If Howard stays, it is easy to envision a scenario similar to above. With Kobe missing the season, or not coming back completely recovered, aging Gasol and the already-aged Nash continuing their lengthy injury breaks, signing ultra cheap low-quality backup that won't even amount to anything, and another coaching change during the season. It is possible that the Lakers won't be able to do anything for the next few years, and then you will also be left with an aging Howard who may still be carrying signs of injury.
