I don't get why people are acting like KD just died. This isn't David Ortiz. He did not have a have some gruesome compound fracture or even a torn ACL. He maybe has a torn achilles. He will be come back and still be a great player.

There should be a high bar for evidence if you want to hold them liable. It's possible everything looked good, he felt good, was moving well, wanted to play, and this is just an unfortunate situation.

I just hope people understand Kawhi's position now. You can't always trust team doctors will do what's best for you, even if they previously had a good history and reputation prior to that.

Exactly. You should know your own body. Say no like Kawhi if you are sure your body says you are not ready to play. Don't get guilted by internal and external forces to play to save their season.

Figured the pressure from KD himself to play could cause them to ignore the risk or make light of it wanting him too play so badly down 3-1 etc going into a fa year when he basically gone anyway and definitely is now. I suspect it was worse than they led on, hell I predicted this would happen but you never want to see it actually happen. Tough luck but he should have gotten better advice

I hope an independent investigation is carried out on the organization - not just at the medical staff level, but also at the management level, especially on those who has an influence on letting KD play or not. This whole incident looks suspicious.

Looks like KL did the right thing last year in trusting his own instinct and getting second opinions outside of the organization's medical staffs.

Man. That really sucks. As much as it is fun to hate on KD for joining the Warriors - he’s otherwise a like-able sports figure, and incredibly under appreciated. He never really seemed like one of the guys in the band for GSW but was clearly their best player. And then gets a potentially career altering injury trying to play through being hurt. All around this situation sucks

But that's when the medical team and other personnel should be there to look out for players. Every player want to play in the FInals. Sometimes, they just can't, and shouldn't. There is noway you can tell me this injury (most likely torn achilles) is not due to the injury he has been nursing. This is just a very very bad look at the GS organization imo.

He's a grown man, one of the top 3 players in the league in his prime, and his team is on the brink of getting eliminated from the finals. If he had his mind set on playing there's nobody who could have stopped him. I'm sure they informed him of the risk and he accepted it, just as any great competitor would. And I think it paid off for him. Nobody is ever going to forget what he did. He'll always be remembered as a hero for the Warriors. What he did might end up inspiring his team to win the championship. And no matter how bad the injury is the Warriors are still going to offer him a max contract.

Myers can take his fake crocodile tears and shove them up his ***. The GSW front office is responsible for this, when they wouldnt tell us what exactly his injury was and a SPECIFIC time frame. He did this as gamesmanship so the other opponent wouldnt know if Durant is playing but this backfired. Because this put pressure on Durant to come back because the fans wanted him to, the players wanted him too, and the media wanted him too because no one knew exactly what was wrong with him and why he was out this long. As a result, he came back not ready and tore something up. So sad. Myers should be fired for this.

If this is the end for Durant I'm not mad about it. I would feel deeply bad for him as a person. Never been a fan of him as an NBA player though.

I hope some sort of action is taken against either the medical staff/management/coaches, KD may not have been given the recommendation to play but they could have forced it anyway.

No one forced KD to play. Let’s put this nonsense to rest. The only person that makes that call is KD at the end of the day.

really? do you not remember how kawhi was ostracized by both the spurs AND the media for a full year? kawhi was strong enough to stand his ground. KD may not have been. media is complicit in all this too. absolutely awful situation and gsw are fully responsible here b/c how many players and athletes say they can play, even when hurt? many do - it's up to the org to say no. but they were more worried about this series.

I thought about it again, and you guys are right. I was being a little naive thinking these guys would have the best interest of the players in mind (especially the medical staff) but the more points that have been brought up by posters here I’ve been inclined to agree this is at the very least on the medical staff.

This really wasn't hard to foresee. I'm not usually one to bash the media, but it bothered me how many prominent media members immediately after game 4 started pushing the narrative that Durant absolutely had to come back and save the day. Ultimately it was likely KD's decision to play, but all the outside pressure surely didn't help.

That's exactly what I thought, he got pressured from within and outside to return, and he took the bait. GS medically clearing him was pure negligence.

I don't blame him for buying into it either. If he comes back and leads the Warriors to the championship, the narrative surrounding him completely changes. Suddenly there's proof that GS needed him, that perhaps they weren't unfairly stacked the last three years, and that maybe he didn't cheat his way to those rings.

I'm not exactly a KD fan, but you have to feel bad for him right now.

He can try to sue the team medical staff that gave him medical clearance to play. You don't have to be a doctor to see that he should not been out there. It was not rocket science. This was gross negligence by the GS organization.

i don't possibly have any idea how you can come to that conclusion without all the facts, there is a lot of information that would be required for you to make that statement.....and since that information is something you couldn't possibly know i'll just agree to disagree just to end this conversation.
