I don't have much to add obviously it's a tragedy.

One crazy angle here is I always enjoyed the random sniping between Kobe and Shaq. It's going to feel weird not to have KB8 throwing random jibes out here and there about how fat Shaq was during their Laker days

Such a senseless death. Several hours later and I'm still in shock. Kobe was transitioning to an interesting career after his retirement, and it's just tragic that he was robbed of the opportunity to pursue his plans. That he died with his daughter just makes the news harder to stomach.

Just a sobering reminder that the universe does not care about us in the slightest, and could snuff us out at a moment's notice.

God doesn't kill people or save them from death imo that's not how it works. It's how you live that I was raised to believe is where you find the truth that was manifested in Christ in your own sacrifices as he gave it all so must you.
It's not really so much unexplained usually when these things happen. At least not at ground zero...But often we are still left questioning with little offered by the media as to why do bad things happen to good people despite the fact that they happen to all kinds of people unfortunately for mostly explainable reasons mostly because of human error or bad preparation or choices not luck. I mean I blame the pilot and the mechanic right now without more information.
Truth is some evil deed could have just as easily sabotaged the helo..
But the reality is they could have prevented the potential of having a problem by not taking uneccesary risks flying in dense fog.
Mamba is an icon and I'm saddened by all this
But there's always a reason for bad things happening even if the reasons don't present themselves or seem fair. RIP

The tragedy of Gigi keeps staying in my mind. I was actually interested and believed she could have done some damage in college and pro basketball. She seemed like the heir to Kobe's drive and skill. And now we will never know. This sucks.

As a human and a father, I have no words. Tragic and heartbreaking are two but they don't come close.
As a Spurs fan, posting this gif is the greatest respect I think I could pay the man in terms of his basketball legacy. Enjoy it Lakers fans as I'll never post it again! Loved this man's work ethic and foot work in the post.

As a kings fan born in 1991 there was no athlete I disliked more than Kobe (of course because basketball, he was an assasin on the court). The crazy thing is my good friend is a Lakers fan, and literally friday I was telling him how I missed watching him play. Just seems so damn crazy, all morning I thought there would be some breaking news that he made it. The man just seemed so damn untouchable.

RIP to kobe and his daughter. I'll be rooting for the lakers this year

Yeah. "This is such bull s****" is just the expression of my personal grief.

I'm sure there is a reason for it all and a divine plan.

And I do think God many times allows things to happen. They aren't in His perfect Will but he allows them to happen.

This event is just so contrary to what I was expecting that it is truly shocking. My human, finite mind can't understand it.

Kobe was the last of his kind. Willing to take on all comers, singlehandedly if need be.

It was hard watching him retire as the league morphed into the superfriends era, but this is too much.

I can just imagine the pain and grief Vanessa and Natalia are in right now. How do you explain to 3 year old Bianka that her daddy is no longer coming back and big sis Gigi in terms she can understand? And little Capri won't even have memories of her father and big sister :cry:

Just yesterday I walked into Chipotle to grab lunch and a girl behind the counter (who looked no older than 18) turned to throw something into the garbage can and said "Kobe!". I doubt she had ever seen the man play, yet he was so embedded in American culture that this was 2nd nature to her. The man has been gone from the game for a few years, but he's still an icon to many. He inspired countless others to follow in his footsteps.

I can't imagine what his poor wife and daughters are going through...

This is a sobering reminder that tomorrow is never promised. As inspiring as Kobe on the court was towards many of you, I hope that in his passing you can find inspiration to do things that you've wanted to do, but were afraid to do. Adopt the mamba mentality, whether it's asking that man/woman out on a date, taking the leap to move into a new city, start a new job, or take that solo travel trip you've been thinking about but afraid to do...tomorrow is never promised.

This should be in the papers tomorrow, on the front page, and everybody should be forced to read it.

As a Laker/Kobe hater (For basketball reasons only, obviously), i hate the fact that this will be used as a motivation by this current Lakers squad and win the goddamn championship. Not only it's a great story but it just make sense that they go full supernova the rest of the way.

(Not to put Kobe's death in bad light; quite the opposite, this also means that Kobe's influence on this Lakers team, which is consistent on how big of a star he is, even past his playing days and now, death...)

Dont count out the Bucks. Giannis was close with Kobe. Kobe was said to challenge him to win MVP last year. Giannis deleted his social media right after this happen so he is hurting too. He might come out even more focused and motivated, which is frightening.

I was shook all day. Still am a bit. Sometimes you just never know what's in store for you next and it was just a huge reminder for someone who's such a prominent figure to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. Give them a hug. How Kobe lit up when he was talking about his daughter was just really great to see. Basketball's just a game, life is much bigger and more important. Prayers for the Bryant family and relatives of all the families involved.
