Crimes are crimes

Haha. Right? They have a warrant to search for drugs but end up instead finding a half dozen women chained up in the basement. But by law they have to just pretend they didn't see it? Lol

I think that's a little different than finding a baggie of coke on the table and now you're going to prison for years because of our outdated drug laws. Equating finding murder victims to finding drugs is arguing in bad faith. If we want to take it to extremes, then if a kid goes missing in your neighborhood, the cops should have free reign to enter your property without your permission at any time they want. In the interest of public safety, of course!

So now you're picking and choosing what crimes a cop can see and arrest for on unrelated calls?

Your example is completely different. Youre example is police entering with zero cause or reason. Versus having a reason to enter and finding a different crime.

I don’t think most cops give a s@@t about a baggie of weed or coke inside a house. Now if you have pounds of it along with a scale and lots of baggies then that’s a different story.

I can’t believe people have watched the video and are defending Hayes. Those people obviously have the same mental capacity of Hayes.

Isn't his house? Why is he telling them it's his house?

Hayes' girlfriend house.

Was he staying there? Did he have a reasonable expectation of privacy within it? He sure acted like he thought he did. Whether it was a reasonable expectation is a matter of fact for a jury.

That said, he was spot on about the police not having the right to enter without a warrant (See Katz) or an exception to the PC warrant requirement. But, at no time did the police ask to or attempt to enter the domicile. His position simply didn’t apply.

If a woman calls the cop on you it’s over...with good cause.

She can’t trust you with her life and now you can’t trust her with yours.(barring mental illness)

And I’m saying a woman should call if she feels in danger...but she should move on if she feels she is living with a threat

Doesn't always work like that though. We were in domestic violence shelters for a couple months 15 years ago (I was ~14) after we left our father, and that was one of the first things they told us - how often women go back to their abusers. Met a woman at one that her boyfriend had chased her around the house with a knife and ended up slicing her hand...and that was months before she left him.

To anyone looking from the outside, it's insane.

Sad all around....

Your the worst the worst when it comes to any post about any of this kind of stuff. He’s not going to jail. That’s such rubbish.

You’re and sorry but he deserves to go to jail.

Jaxson Hayes already technically went to jail...are you advocating for prison for what you saw on the video? If so, how long?

Plus, drunk millionaire dude early in the morn ain’t going to prison for was we saw on that video in America....we got people beating cops with flag poles getting time served just for showing up in court. If he was a repeat offender and if his girl was actually beat up...yeah maybe some time would happen.

He not even getting a slap on the wrist—- he getting a tap on the wallet...

I might have misssed the defending of Jaxson...I wouldn’t defend him after seeing the video...but u sure as hell don’t think these cops did a great job either.

The first objective should have been to find the woman that was allegedly in danger. Seems like when Jaxson got mouthy they got handsy...he ramped it up they ramped it up...they kept trying to one up each other and then drew the taser and threatened his boy for videoing the incident.

I think the only smart person in the whole exchange was jaxsons boy who went straight for....”go get your girl so we can close this out quick”. If Jaxson would have listened to that, who knows how this would have gone. But when Jaxson raised his voice one cop had to put hands on him...which escalated the issue. Bad all around-

Has anyone heard if the girl was hurt?

Dollar for Dollar the worst police force in the world. I can understand why a guy making no money in a broke a$$ country behaves like that. I can't understand how a person in a developed country doesn't try to avoid problems at this job.

American cops seem terrified tbh.

No, the alternative is police can enter, but there's a law prohibiting the state from persecuting you for anything illegal going on in the private property but the domestic violence. So you're telling me if a cop has a warrant or probable cause to say look in your car for drugs, and finds a human foot under your seat they shouldn't be able to charge the person for that crime because they were only looking for drugs?

Im no law expert but in cases like hayes had the police wanted to talk to his girlfriend to see if shes scared or hurt or if there is any indication that she is in danger. So if they get permision to enter the house the cant just go around searching the place so if the drugs/illegal stuff is not noticable i.e smell of weed or lines on the table they cant search the house.

I think the law he is referring to is evidence aquired by illegally entering the house, like say in the movies were the cop breaks in to search for illegal things.

If the police get a search warrant to search the house it is to search the house for illegal things, not specifically drugs or guns so anything they find with that warrant will be used against you in court.

Im not from america but if im pulled over and the police suspects that i have drugs in my car they will ask for permission to search it... I can say no but if they have feel they have a good reason to search it, they will detain me and bring me to the station while they aquire a warrant.

Jaxon Hayes was an ****. I just don't understand that type of behaviour. I personally try to be nice and not confrontational with people in general. It baffles me that people can act like that with any type of person in authority.

BUT some police are so bad at de-escalating situations. It's your job to deal with ****, be a professional about it. You should be expecting it and be the bigger man. They could have explained to him why he was mistaken and try to speak calmly.

They could have done a better job of explaining the situation but they were surprisingly calm throughout. And I dont blame them for not taking the time to explain. Theyre on a domestic violence call, and the person who may be a threat to the caller is drunk and belligerent and refusing to cooperate. Also didnt take Hayes friend any time to figure out what the cops were there for and how to respond

I agree that Hayes was out of line and trying to get back in the house was a poor choice. I'm just saying that they're professional and their first mindset should be to avoid having to fight with him at all cost.

Didn't the police officer grab him by the wrist twice before Hayes showed that he could be violent to them? I don't think that grabbing a pissed off guy by the wrist is helping unless you want it to finish in a fight.

Ultimately, I think Hayes is about 80% at fault. I just can't side 100% with the cops because they didn't attempt to make the situation better.

I mean the cop was trying to enter the house on a potential domestic violence call and Hayes was blocking him. Maybe they could have explained to him more clearly why he was wrong. But they were just trying to make sure that everyone in the home is alright.

Both parties could have handled it better. Of course.

But remember, police can’t police from their heels, they must police from their toes. Their job is dangerous and the environment today extremely toxic.

We see this video through the lens of not on our toes, not even on our heels, from on our but and behind the screen. Our “should of” “could of” “would of” is highly skewed.

One hope would be these cops and their respective department use this encounter as training to be better next time.

Other hope is Hayes, and any other citizens that wants to follow his footsteps (desire to be victimized by blue), see this and JUST DON’T — they too learn to be better when/if they interact with authorities.

I don’t remember that ‘Police can’t police from their heels’ because I don’t know what that means. Police are just citizens with jobs like doctors and Refs and nba players. If we want something different from the profession, we have to demand it.

In this situation, Jaxson was an @$$ and some of the cops were unprofessional. People being people.

Today’s environment is no different than it has been since the beginning of civilization. The government is the people and then the government over reaches and the people complain, rebel and rise up....

We are still in the complain stage...(2a is reserved for the rebel and rise up)

This environment you call toxic in America is less toxic than most governments relationships with the citizens on earth and for all time.

As long as people can learn to not take sides, swallow biases and demand what we want vs constantly defending the less than idea situation we have.

You clearly haven’t been around the world. In a lot of countries the police are utterly useless and powerless. USA is also a country with by far the most weapons in the world, every encounter has a good chance of being shot. Don’t always be reading the media

Police are “just” citizens is a wild misrepresentation. Once they take on that profession they make large sacrifices and it comes with much different expectations than a regular citizen.

Maybe that is the disconnect with people like Hayes. He wants to see them as “just” citizens when they are on the job. Respect their authority when they are on duty. Have a sense of how one should interact differently with them than “just” a citizen.

I for one interact different with different people in my life — police included. I don’t treat by homie the same as my boss. Or my brothers the same as my Korean War vet grandfather.

I would hope my level of respect when interacting with police would demand a high level or respect back with me (during an interaction). If it doesn’t, I will complete my interaction and then make my complaint known after the moment (which is usually a moment of heightened emotion - or why is a cop needed in first place). And that department needs to take my complaint serious to provide officer additional training and a path for that officer improvement — so the next time he/she interacts with a respectful citizen, that interaction goes much better (and the cycle of improvement continues on).

Just like how media left out guy being duche bag towards police. Dude lacks total common sense and is an absolute idiot and police uses too much power in USA. Nothing surprising in either case.

a second officer said to "get your knee up" when jax said he couldnt breathe. I was so proud of that officer, that was exceptional of him to remember that they are dealing with a human being. That was not too bad imo, it was a messed up situation. The officers didnt need to be so harsh with him, I think those offficers should be retrained, and the officer i mentioned should be honored.

I just want to praise the cops who do well as much as i dump on the ones who do poorly like the other ones. Jax is weak as hell, theres no need to put a knee on his neck.
