I don't think it's that. DLo has red flags.

I think DLo fit with GSW was just awful to begin with and I think it probably messed up his confidence.

Minny last year was ok for DLo but really he doesn't fit with Ant. This year became a disaster because you have a rhythm PG matched with an offensively inept C that really needs set plays to be impactful offensively.

Jrue, DLo, McDaniels, Vando, KAT
That would have been the perfect DLo fit in Minny.

Was this season a disaster for Russell in Minnesota though?

He started off slowly... but he's been a 49/43/89 guy for the past 3+ months. He's never shot more efficiently in his entire career.

And part of that was attributed to Edwards taking on a more ball-dominant role and Russell playing off the ball more.

[Note: Minnesota didn't dump Russell because of on-court stuff. They were stuck with what to do with him this summer, when they would have lost him for basically nothing if they didn't overpay to resign him.]

Disaster as in fit wise. A strong word yeah. But the right PG with those %s should have Minny in the top 5 of the league. DLo was as good as he can be and it didn't translate well to wins.

He's a great shooter and rhythm shot creator. Minny needs a point guard that runs plays in an offense where people know their roles. Ant it KAT did a better job of this than DLo.

They was winning with D-Lo since the new years they had one of the top records? A team with Gobert, KAT and Ant , translating to wins shouldnt fall on D-Lo.

D-Lo and Pat Bev worked well last year. I am not seeing the disaster.

Oh so these “I watched DLo for 33 games on GSW 9 years ago so I’m an expert on his career outlook” hot takes are all just trying to be concerned advisors, need to warn everyone a dozen times a day. So thoughtful haha

I mean, sure? But he also sucked. Sometimes the guy playing with the bad players is also bad.

But he didn't suck. Keep being delusional, I guess lol

Are you doubling down on DLo? I got to watch a year of him at GSW too. Where he was...

...bad.

23.6 ppg, 37% from 3. How is that bad? And that too with Kerr not letting him run PnRs? And with that god awful roster?

Damn that Kerr!

DLo pnr ball hander possessions per game, past 4 years:

2018-19: 11.4
2019-20: 10.3/11.0
2020-21: 7.7
2021-22: 6.6

(For some added context, getting 10+ pnr possessions per game would put you in the top 10 every year)

Just to refresh my memory, which year did Russell play for GSW?

He only played 33 games for Warriors that year. So I don't know what you are trying to prove. Finch also didn't let him run PnRs on the Wolves.

Well the good news is we can agree that the Lakers had a great trade deadline.

6'3 and a quarter was his non shoe height at the combine. He plays smaller and weaker. As others have mentioned he doesn't attack the rim well and he's been a below average defender. I have no hate for that guy, I'd love to see him be successful (anywhere but the lakers of course). It doesn't change that he's a good player who's skillset is that of a shoot first scorer and he's a hair below where he needs to be for that role on a contender.

6'3 and a quarter is big for a PG and he has a long wingspan. He can't get to the rim well but he's a good finisher once he's there (70% in the last 4 seasons which is one of the highest restricted area FG% amongst PGs), and he uses his body well when pinning people in the midrange for his pull up jumper (he's 49% in the midrange this year). Defensively he's not a great man to man defender but he's an above average defender at this point in his career. He was basically a middle linebacker for Minny last year.

This is what I mean by irrational hate, you're not describing him as a player in this post, you're describing what you assume he is. Remove his half year in Golden State on a terrible team and he's been an above average starting PG for years now. He just needs to keep it together in the playoffs now.

You don't seem to know what hate is. And 6'3 is pretty average these days. Especially given he isn't especially stronger either.

Looks like D’Lo will get his chance at Gobert for all the marbles on Tuesday.

Btw was Dlo 100% right about Gobert or only 99.9% right?

Gobert punching teammates but Russell was the problem. The lengths this board has gone to pump Gobert up when he’s clearly overrated and had issues with Mitchell and now other teammates in Minnesota. But it will always be everyone else’s fault.

d'lo has matured into a good young pg. he's made mistakes and has grown from them. everyone is entitled to making mistakes. he was right about gobert. and he's by far better than the garbage we have in chicago.

To be fair Gobert didn’t punch him in the face and Gobert punched a teammate in the face on national TV
