Doesn't seem like it. How that guy gets away with all this stuff is beyond me, other than the regular star player nonsense.

I don't think the NBA is fining players for hand gestures. Do you remember any cases where they fined someone for making a hand gesture? They usually fine players for verbal comments, right?

That’s what Cuban and Mavs fan think should happen.

If the ref caused the confusion, of course. Especially if the announcers said Mavs' ball. They should be sure that everyone knows what is going on.

What does it matter if its a hand gesture? He is clearly questioning the integrity of the refs publicly. Scottie Barnes got an instant injection (he had no previous techs) for that in the final 2 minutes of a close game

Hand gestures have a long history of fines if you look it up.

I can't believe this is getting so big. Clearly GS realized it was there ball. Clearly the Mavs thought they were on defense with all 5 back. They were just on the wrong side of the court.

All 3 answers are fair. My main point is that this was a confusing situation for everyone (not even the TV crew managed to capture the basket live) and that the refs should have done a better job communicating their decision to the Mavs and making sure that everyone was on the same page.

I mean pretty much this. Now Reggie was doing a great job on Steph, but they can't stop anyone at any time.

Just a bad night from the refs. Josh Green on one sequence committed like 8 loose ball fouls and the refs were all just like that's fine. I get why Steph and Luka seemed frustrated all night. It was definitely let em play night. Which honestly I kinda like.

I like letting them play a bit more, but there were a few fouls that went too far (Looney push, Lamb getting tackled) and then some soft calls where you're like "Why now". I do enjoy more bumping being allowed though, every time players touch it shouldn't be a foul (e.g. watching Austin "The GOAT" Reaves lately). A lot of what fans want is to see players contest each other, it brings excitement. Generally some contact is involved in contesting and as long as it's not extreme or on the player's arms while shooting, I'd rather refs swallow the whistle. It's so much more fun to watch. I do think Steph probably deserved at least one trip to the FT line though

If anyone prefers a more "orderly" game with more free throws, Tony Brothers is reffing the 76er/Warrior game tonight :-?

Between this piddly fine and the VanVleet piddly fine, the NBA doesn't seem to care about their players questioning the integrity of their sport.

I would be shocked, but this is a spineless Adam Silver led league, so there's that.

Well, 50k is the max they could be fined, what kind of a punishment would you like to see? I mean, Luka made a stupid hand gesture, the other guy criticized the refs--should they be suspended?

$50k and a game sounds right.

Hell, or at the very least retroactively give him a technical, then he'd get the suspension for being over the tech limit. Dude has 15 now, and probably should have more like 30.

Lol, Jason Kidd. Only a matter of time when his lack of intelligence would show up again.
Back when he was coaching the Bucks in the closing seconds he told Khris Middleton to miss a free throw, when they were up 3. He was worried about a 4 point play.

How is this genius a coach in the NBA?

In my little girl’s game, Lucy would have been ejected making the dollar gesture towards the ref twice.

Lucy wouldn't make that gesture, because the ref wouldn't miss a blatant jersey pull right in his face.
