although he's not solely responsible for the Rockets turnaround, Udoka deserves love, so do the FO for signing vets (I really didn't like the Brooks signing, but he's playing very well and just what they needed) and ofc internal growth from Jabari, Eason, Jalen etc

be that as it may, with Sengun being the clear cut best player on a resurging team and still too young to sniff even fringe MVP candidate status, esepcially if the Rockets as a team end up as a lower-ish seed - the default will be to give him MIP, cuz u gotta give him something - he's been playing like a superstar

He’s undoubtedly better, but he feels more like they finally let him cook, more so than he took a massive leap. Feels like he was waiting to explode a while ago.

I love Trey Murphy, but I was aching for Sengun in that draft, even if it wasn’t a perfect fit with Zion. Felt like such a rare talent sitting outside the top 10. Wish we would have traded back in to snag him

Sengun even before his growth this season, when he was weaker defensively last year I would take Sengun 100 of 100 over Duran types. It is near impossible to become defensive monster All NBA center like Dwight Howard with little offence in today's ultra skilled NBA.

Sengun was always promising because he had skilled post moves, ball handling, passing, decent shot early on. Much easier to become a better version of Sabonis or Embiid type allstar than Duran becoming Dwight in 2023. Don't compare him to Bam who has midrange shot that makes him more than a dunker. Easier for Jokic to learn to become decent playoffs defender than a Dwight or Gobert types to become decent at shooting, post moves, passing.

I don't wanna downgrade the guy BUT Duren is looking more like a suped up version of Bo Outlaw than the next coming of Dwight Howard.

I'm not sure if it's due to him coming off an injured ankle (I believe) but he isn't looking right. Or maybe that's really just who he is?

Sengun is in the David Lee Domantas Sabonis mold. He can score but he’s not really a game changer in any way and extremely hard to build a top tier contender with those sort of guys as your number 2. They can be bottled up or limited by good defenders like a Looney and their one on one play style hampers the free flowing part of an offense. If they aren’t a big plus defender it usually sets a ceiling on what you can achieve.

We're here comparing Sengun to Duren, to you think it's easy to build a top tier contender around a guy like him, instead?
I can understand the idea of not wanting to max out offense first/defensively limited guys and preferring a goof rim runner/protector. But only because you would want that to pay that kind of guy half the money, but if you make it fair and max him out as well you have zero chances of making this work.

Let's not act like they are drastically different to start their careers. Udoka is finally making him the hub of the Houston offense because he trusts Senguns decision making. That's pretty big confidence in a 21 year old kid.

Jokic is legitimately on his way to being a top 10 all time player. Do you realize how rare that is?

Another comment I would like to add: Sengun, and others who will come for sure, can ay the way he's playing, with so many touches, delay actions, DHOs, because once upon a time Jokic came along.
Now coaches are more likely to look for the next Jokic giving Alpi (and others) opportunities the would have otherwise had.

The Enes Kanter comparisons were ridiculous to begin with. He's not stonefooted nor a blackhole when he gets passed the ball. I wouldn't be surprised if Sengun isn't on pace to shatter Kanter's career games with 5 assists in no time.

I mean yeah, KAnter had 9 career 5+ assist games and Sengun has 47 right now. He'll probably catch up to kanter in total assists in 500 less games
