Joker realized the MVP is within his grasps again. At some point during the season you realize as a player you’re at the top or near the top for mvp. So why not make a push for it?

These last 9 games, Jokic is averaging 23/9.8/9.6 (23/10/10 if you wanna round up) on 81/75/85.

I don't want to hear anyone else say Jokic isn't the best player on the planet.

81/75/85 looks like the typo of the century - until you realize, these are real numbers.

To me it’s basically a three way tie between SGA, Jokic, and Giannis at the moment. I can see legitimate arguments for all of them. Anyone else I don’t see it at this time.

I don’t see an argument for Giannis as there are clearly 2 players ahead of him on performance wise.

Defence ain’t what it is atm and isn’t where it was on his peak seasons.

All the teams are winning and heading for top 3 locks.

Jokic and SGA and a clear gap to the rest imo.

Stats are noisy enough that you could argue that Giannis has been the best player this season. 3rd in DPM. 3rd in EPM. 3rd in LEBRON.4th in Time Decay RAPM. 6th in BPM.

I mean, prisoners of the moment.

Jokic has the biggest gap over the field since MJ, LeBron, and Shaq.

And after last year's crap? Jokic is 100% winning MVP this year, barring a fall off outside the top 3.

SGA needs to prove he's a legit top 5 player. A 30 game sample doesn't do it..and voters won't give him it, unless Jokic falls off.

Giannis' defence has actually been better this year compared to the last couple, but you'd need to watch games to know it.

On any other day than today that would have been a reason to give him the MVP.

Come on man, I was genuinely interested in your opinion and was willing to have a proper debate, but you had to go ahead and write this.

I really don't think you realize what kind of a season Shai is currently having.

You think the guy on the right here should get MVP over the guy on the left?

Obviously Ant isn't having a better year. I was merely making a point of not over-emphasising the "suprise" factor in the team standings as a reason for awarding Shai the MVP.

It's just one of the factors. The main factors I already listed in my first comment. The only two arguments there can be made for Giannis are the team being so bad at defense yet they're still pulling out wins, which is a hard one to make when you just acquired Dame this season, and him being a more impactful defender than Shai maybe. Every other thing Shai "currently" has a lead on Giannis. Things are subject to change of course.

You even listed 4th quarter scoring there, i don't think you pay attention to OKC at all. Should Giannis lose MVP points because he hasn't scored a single point in the 4th quarter against the Celtics the other day?

Granted, OKC have more blowouts and thus less need for 4th quarter points, but there's still something to be said for performing when the heat is on.

Wait a minute, what?

In LeBron James' entire career, he hasn't had a game (excluding injuries) where he took 8 or less FGA's, but Jokic did it twice in a week this month?

And the Nuggets are 19-1 since last season when Jokic takes 10 or fewer FGA's?

Kendrick Perkins calling this man a stat-padder should be criminally liable for slander. Unbelievable.

Is anyone seriously arguing for Ant over Jokic+Embiid+Giannis+SGA?

Its actually that SGA plays less fourth quarter minutes (6mpg) than Giannis (9mpg) because he plays the entire 3rd quarter. On a per minute basis, SGA actually slightly outscores Giannis in the fourth at a higher efficiency.

Can you post up the per minute comparison numbers in the 4th?
