The US has the best roster in the world without question. Winning is the minimum expectation.

Have you ever watched any team sport at this level when one game decides? Not always the one with the best roster wins, probably not even half of the time...Only in basketball one team has not lost for 20 years and they are somehow ridiculed.

Which team hasn't lost in 20 years?

IT’S THE OLYMPIC EXPERIENCE!!! With the greatest trio of this generation! They get to experience this moment, Paris, with other elite athletes and meet people and attend games and matches AND win a Gold. Tatum brought his kid with him and he gets to experience France. Kerr can’t play everyone every game.

I understand you play Embiid against Serbia for match up, KD is the best USA Olympics player of the last generation but it is insulting to bench a great player who is at worst 6th best in the NBA for Ant with his iso turnovers or Bam shooting 3s. Booker is good for spacing guard shooting but Tatum should have played a lot with the bench.
You embarrassed a great player that is 26 years old with zero minutes before the whole world for no reason and played mostly old players for reputation sake. Tatum will be seen as a weak mentally superstar if he says yes to 2028 Olympics now...

Haliburton is miles away from the level Tatum has earned in the NBA, he is barely an all-star, is happy to be there. He wasn't destroying Dallas in finals game 5, 31 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds.

Read on Twitter

As An American I was twisting my body to make sure that last Curry 3 rolled around the rim and in. Everybody is focused on winning Gold on Saturday. Then what?
We do all remember when players didn't want to come to the Olympics. What better way to keep players away with what happened to Brown and Tatum?
USA was heavy favorites to win this all from jump. So we are both thankful they pulled out a win and wondering about Kerr's rotations and loyalties that put them on the brink of losing.
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

Oh I see.
Because US basketball team lost last year to Germany.
But I guess you have the same Olympics team for the last 20 years, so it makes sense to ignore the loss last year

it was not a D team. Two players of last years team are in this year's team. It was a B team. And it will actually be very very close to the A team again, after these olympics when all the big dogs retire.

It's very convenient to ignore the losses and care only about the wins, unfortunately both happened.
And it's not like they sent some unknown college players...

B team with Walker Kessler as their only center and players like Reaves, Hart, Portis, Cam Johnson? I dont think so.

We didn't send our best players that is for sure. And the fact is, yes, we lost a couple of games, but that happens. We are still by far the most dominant basketball nation on the planet.

It's like taking Olympics in football into consideration. There are pro players playing in that tournament, but that doesn't mean that it's a relevant tournament, or an accurate picture of the teams

Sedale Threatt wrote:A World All-Star team would be salty as hell.

They'd have the same issues we do in terms of figuring out a hierarchy and who can adjust from being The Guy to slotting into more limited roles. As amazing as they are, Jokic and Doncic might not fit together as seamlessly as you'd think given that they're both used to having an entire system run around them. To say nothing of an SGA, who I could easily see struggling with a more off-the-ball role. But in terms of raw talent, that would be an incredible collection. Frankly, I think they'd beat us more often than not.

And that's where the "world has caught up" notion rings true. For anybody who has been watching the NBA as long as I have (late 80s), the growth of the world talent pool over the past 30-plus years has been remarkable. You had oddities like Detlef Schrempf and Vlade Divac, who were really nice players. But I don't think anybody could have seen the complete sea change coming where the NBA is approaching a full third of its players being from overseas with perennial MVP candidates.

In terms of actual international games, however, it's always going to be an uphill climb because of the numbers game. We have almost 350 million people. Serbia is smaller than five different U.S. metro areas, let alone full states, let alone the entire country. They played an almost perfect game in the first half, had a 15-point lead with less than 11 minutes left, hit 15 3s through 3 quarters and it still wasn't enough. So that's what you're always going to be up against.

The world hasn't caught up. The world is dependent on our next door neighbors for guard play. The world is dependent on guards like SGA and before him Ben Simmons, two guys that played high school basketball in the United States. I would make a rule that if you were playing basketball in the United States before the age of 18, then you can not compete on the world team. The world is trying to beat us with our own products.

Capital city of Serbia and capital city of Slovenia is 6 hours away by car or 45 minutes by plane.

8 years before Luka was born it was the same country.

It's not that simple. But yes he feels Slovenian and play for Slovenia. Its the right choice.

Luka moved to Spain at age 13. His girlfriend and baby mama is Spanish.

Embiid moved to the US from Cameroon at 16 years old. He did not grow up in the US as a child.
Again, he has every right to play for US, I am not disputing him that.

Also most countries do not view nationality rights the same as US do. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jus_soli#:~:text=Almost%20all%20states%20in%20Europe,is%20automatic%20only%20for%20the

If you are born in US and your parents are not american, you get a citizenship. In Europe and Asia if you are born in a country you don't get a citizenship. You get it based on your parents nationality.

Yugoslavia roster would be insane in the Olympics. Doncic, Jokic, Bogdanovic x2, Vucevic, Dragic, Nurkic, Zubac, Saric, Osman...

Avdia????

He'd probably play for Israel, yes?

lol I don't why people are denying it when he himself is saying he lived there.

Embiid an American. He finished high school in America, went to college in America and when he retires is gonna live in America.

I know he grew up in a Cameroon and there are a lot of French ties to that country, but he isn’t French. Lol.

Both basketball finals could end up being USA vs France unless Belgium has something to say about it.

Since we are talking about world cup. If FIBA wants to make that competition more attractive for players and some federations, they should make it The only way to qualify to the Olympics. No more pre Olympic qualifiers. When copa America was the qualifying tournament, and usa didn't win the world championship, they would always send a very strong team, and we see now how much they care about that competition.
