Mbappe is about the same age as Luka and is still arguably the a top 3 striker in the world, many would argue he's the best
I mean, if that's him not trying to get better..any team would be happy to have a world class player
Besides, I don't buy into Luka not being competitive or competitive enough. he may not be professional enough but that's different than competitiveness
5 years ago Mbappe looked like the next Ronaldo/Messi tier GOAT contender, who would be in a tier of his own with Haaland for a decade+. Now he's not even Real's key man. He's still an amazing talent, but he's just one of the best right now along with Wirtz / Musiala / Haaland / Bellingham / Vini / etc.; not running out ahead of the pack.
Not saying I think Luka will become Zion, but I do wonder if he'll ever reach an even higher level or if he won't become more mortal.
Luka going to the Lakers just gives me Mbappe finally going to Real vibes.
Dude Mbappe and Luka aren't even in the same situation. Mbappe went to a team where their attacking trio all play at their best from the left side flank as their starting point. Is it a coincidence that Mbappe has been beasting whenever Vini has been out?
Luka is going to be the main offensive hub on this team Lebron will play a lot more off ball. In theory this duo is gonna be great.
Fact of the matter is ever since the Bilbao game where he missed the penalty Bappe has been clear the best player along with bellingham for a good while now.
Vini will probably be on the move.
And bappe not playing with the natonal team is clearly because he refused to play in that crap friendly tournament Nations league.
Bappe has had like 22 goals or something in all competitions and we're half way through the season. He's fine.
Not the same situation but I wonder if there will be some similarities. Similar age, similar GOAT hype when they first broke out, similar ascent to greatness at a crazy young age, some rumblings about their focus as they started to eye moves to more prestigious / famous clubs. Plenty of differences too, but there are similarities and I'm starting to wonder if either of them are as insanely competitive as you need to be to maintain that kind of GOAT level for a decade+
I agree with the fit issues at Real, but french fans were carping about Mbappe's focus last year as well and down the stretch of the season before. So this isn't just about going to a more difficult situation and that rattling his confidence/focus all around. Not saying that's not a factor, but we're at two-three years of Mbappe being just one of the best players in the world, not one of two frontrunners for the BdO, like he had been and it looked like he would continue to be into his 30s.
But you're right, Mbappe could still settle in at Real and reach new heights that we haven't seen from him yet...like I said, the ability is still there to do things that nobody else can. But Kylian actually reaching those even greater heights is nowhere near as certain as it looked just 3-4 years ago, and I kinda feel the same way about Luka & his GOAT case.
Could totally just be me though. Wouldn't be the first time my gut led me astray from the majority

but just the fact that you're putting Jude on the same level as him now, feels like proof to me that he doesn't stand out as much as he used to. Because Jude's been at this level going back to his final few BVB seasons and if I had put him & Mbappe as equals just 3 seasons ago, when jude almost led BVB to the BuLi title, I'd have been fairly called a BuLi homer.
