I don't see Pop pulling the trigger on this. His bread & butter is developing home grown young talent and he has plenty of that now. Why blow a hole in that for KD's snowflake ass. We already made plus additions in Fox and Castle. If Milwaukee doesn't wanna talk, turn the phones off and build up the young core this summer like OKC has done.

Fox was the right move to accelerate the timeline maybe one year. Thanks to the Dylan Harper luck, the Spurs should be ready to take over by the time the Thunder are forced to break up the core.
I don't understand why they'd throw that away for Durant, who's just a stats and not impact guy at this point.

Lol.
We ain't winning an NBA Title anytime soon. IMO
Would love to, but just being realistic here.
Just trying to start finally winning again. Make the playoffs first time since 2019, first winning season since then, too.

Spurs would be scary if they manage to develop Wemby, Castle and Harper to their full potential.

You underrate the amount of busts the Spurs have had. Wemby is a transcendent talent but we don’t know how long his body will last. I am not a fan of KD, but if he end of being your 3rd best player, you can really contend. I just don’t want to give up the farm for a 37 year old that will make more and more money in this new CBA structure that punishes stupid contracts teams give and taken in.

Generally I agree with you but I think the Spurs can have both. Durant for something like the 14th pick, Johnson, Barnes, Sochan and the Spurs keeping the #2 pick. A roster of Fox, #2 pick, Castle, Vassell, Durant is good now and then 2-4 years from now the Spurs can still move forward with #2 pick, Castle and Wemby.

You have 2 years to go for it while Wemby is on his rookie deal, more teams should be taking advantage of having a Superstar on rookie deals like NFL teams do when they have a franchise QB on one.

He's played 92 games in two years (46 each)? Why is everyone so impatient? Am I the only person who wants to see him finish a season healthy before anointing him?

Wemby taking up less than 10% of the cap rather than 30% makes it easier to build a championship team around him.
He played 117 games, 71 in the first season. Mostly been healthy outside of the DVT issue.

I don't know why I forgot he played 71. He wouldn't have been ROY playing 46 games. I just want Victor to make it through a full season with the Spurs making the playoffs. They aren't winning a title before his rookie deal is up, which is in two years.

You put a really good team out there and who knows. Nobody thought the Pacers would be up 2-1 in the NBA Finals either.

Getting KD without giving up Fox, or Castle, or Vassell, OR #2 pick? Haha, sure...but if I'm Phoenix I'm firing my GM. I get it, KD is 36 but the man just averaged 26/6/4 on over 50/40/80 splits. Surely there's better offers than a mid pick and our 5th,6th, or 7th best players.

KD doesn't have the trade value that people think plus it's going to be tough moving $50+ million in salary.

You know the Spurs, if it isn't something like the 14th pick, Johnson, Barnes, Sochan then the Spurs won't do it. End of story.

Re: Spurs could be scary with KD.
With Giannis staying in Milwaukee, the Rockets are the team that really needs Durant to help their young group take the next step. If the Spurs get him, Rafael Stone better have something else up his sleeve to upgrade the roster and the team’s ceiling.
They have a team full of young athletes who are plus defenders. What they lack is a number one offensive option and shooting. Provided the cost is reasonable (two or three-first round picks of value), he would significantly elevate the Rockets and help the young guys get experience winning in the playoffs the next two years.
Also, the Thunder aren’t going away anytime soon, and the Spurs are coming fast. The Rockets don’t have as much time to sit on their hands and let the young guys develop as they might think. Look at Memphis now compared to how they were the young “IT” team a few years ago.

I also don't think they realize he's an unrestricted free agent next year. Literally a one-year rental potentially. No way the Spurs sell the farm for him

From what I know the trade would be contingent on an extension. So you'd be stuck with him for 3 years. I still think it's a good move. KD is aging like LeBron and in hindsight, plenty of teams could've benefited from trading for a 37 year old LeBron at minimum cost. If the alternative is running it back with Vassell and drafting a rookie at 14, they really have nothing to lose.

Draft Harper and continue to build the roster around Wemby. Him, Fox, and Castle will be better next year. They should avoid Durant
