I guess Magic figure with Franz and Paolo they are atleast first round playoff team for almost the next decade so no lottery picks? They're also going to have three guys making $35 million plus next year. Paolo still on his rookie deal.

Franz $38.6 mil
Suggs $35 mil
Bane $36.7 mil
Paolo only at $15 mil

Magic going to run with Suggs/Bane backcourt? Let Paolo and Franz handle most of play making duties?
I think this trade allows them to trade Suggs for an actual PG, if they want to.

Magic are now major contenders moving forward. Another step from either Paolo or Wagner and its a done deal.

On a positive, with Boston out…

It’s really only Indy, NY, Cleveland and Orlando in the east. If this trade was for someone like Collin Sexton, I would say Orlando would be last out of those 4 teams. With this trade, I’d honestly put us at #2 behind only NY (yes I know Indy is in the finals)

If Bane forgets how to shoot in Orlando, I’ll be beside myself…

Overpay, but not a bad move. The Magic desperately needed 3PT shooting, they got one of the best in the league. His own scoring aside, Bane will give Paolo and Franz more space to operate in. I like the aggressiveness from the Magic because they aren't far off at all.

I actually like the trade for both teams. This gives the Grizzlies some ammo to make a trade this summer if they want to.

For the Magic, this is a great core of four guys who will be 23/24/24/27 at the start of next year. As long as the owners are willing to pay why not? #16 when you still have #25 isn't that bad of an asset drop. I think 2030 could look risky, but that might just be the price of doing business and if that pick ends up being #18-#28 I don't think they sweat it that much.

Bane is good but this seems like a huge haul for him, similar to what I thought of the Bridges trade. Very good player but not worth franchise value in a trade. Orlando has to go for it so I get it from their perspective.

I guess they are going to let Bane run Point. He has alot of experience doing so, with Ja always in and out the lineup.

This is where I’m at too. Fits the Magic’s biggest need to a T, but pretty striking overpay.

They really gotta hope his production doesn’t dip and he ends up only being a 17ppg scorer on like 36% 3pt shooting in Orlando. Otherwise you’re looking at another Bridges like trade.

In a vacuum, I really wouldn't hate this trade for Orlando despite not putting them in contention status if it means they're in the playoffs for the next several years, but the (pretty pricey for what it is) core of Banchero/Bane/Wagner/Suggs is now set and I don't think it's good enough to ensure that. Next year they can potentially get as far as the ECF with Tatum out, but beyond that I can see teams eclipsing them, and they'll have trouble improving their roster. Not saying they can't or won't be a 1st/2nd round team for years to come, just that it's not enough of a sure thing to warrant that price.

Orlando has lost their damn mind. Good team, but still no PG and how do they get one now?

I think they can still get under the tax and use their full MLE. Ty Jerome would be an amazing get.

Bane/Black
Suggs/Ty

I’d LOVE that backcourt.

For how good a shooter Bane is, he is one guy, he won't fix spacing issues by himself and how does Orlando fix other areas now, they just sold everything. For hoe much I like Orlandos team, bane aint putting them over the top, hes a role player.

Bane is a like a Jamal Murray type. I don’t think it’s fair to call him a role player, but not good enough where he should be your 2nd best player.

This trade really just screams of the Bridges to NY trade, but even for that trade, Bridges was the Nets franchise player at that point (or at least they were trying to make him be that). Bane was the 3rd best player on Memphis behind Ja and JJJ.

Lost in all this, where is Memphis going at this point? Was this just a situation of “this deal is too good to pass up and we can still be good” or are they looking to actually do a bigger rebuild?

I’m not defending this trade, and my comment here has nothing to do with the trade: Orlando will only go as far as Paolo’s and Franz’s shooting development goes. If they become average, to above-average 3pt shooters, the league is in trouble. If not, Orlando is in trouble.

Not the last good player going from West to East this summer I think

The balance is so bad, some west teams (Memphis, Sacramento, Phoenix) will accelerate their rebuild and some East team (Chicago ?, Toronto ? Etc) will believe they can make the playoffs with a move or 2
