Won't do much with the salary cap in place. Having said that, I was tired of Jeannie's emotional attachment to veterans. Hopefully this means we are moving from 4734883 year old lebron.

It’s hard not to be excited if you’re a Lakers fan.

Yes the dodgers have no salary cap in their respective league but what puts them on the top is their A-Game to be ahead of everyone within scouting, analytics, etc…

Just forward thinking stuff. In the short term, it won’t mean much plus it’s a different league. But in the long term it’ll mean a lot. Ballmer has to be fuming rn now that the nepo kids aren’t in power anymore. At worst, Lakers are just now catching up to the rest of the league, at best they utilize the team’s frankly *gifts* to reach its maximum potential.

Jeanie has spent for stars over the years but it was clear Lakers were a notch below everyone else within the margins, the little things like not having a big analytical department and having the rambis’s having influence within the group. Now that is coming to an end I’m excited to see how the Guggenheim group handles basketball after having dominated baseball.

What an ignorance , before Buss Lakers could be an old Clippers without ever becoming Lakers

Lakers gotta have dumbest fan base in any sport

Bad take, and no need to call a fanbase dumb, especially with grammar like yours.

Jerry Buss built this team. His nepo kids who currently run the team don’t have either the $$$ to run the team like a premier organization or the skill.

I respect the hell out of what Jerry built. He’s no longer with us. His kids deciding to sell is for the best, it puts the franchise in the best position to succeed in the future.

Again Lakers Fanbase is dumber than a sack of rocks, no Loyalty no Attachment , Bandwagon’s franchise

Poster was given a time out for attacking/baiting a fanbase and excessive bickering. -b

Windhorst reports "Abu Dhabi" has invested 10 billion of a total 15-17 billion (i.e., the rest is from other sources) in TWG "to invest in sports." This happened two months ago.

Basically, they aren't allowed to straight up buy the Lakers, so they do the next best thing.

This article from May says TWG is backed by Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund.

Mubadala Capital, the asset management branch of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, is anchoring a $10 billion investment as part of TWG Global’s $15 billion equity raise.

In return, TWG has bought a 5% minority stake in Mubadala and has agreed to invest $2.5 billion into its products. Eventually, they plan to invest $20 billion.

I thought the NBA banned Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds. Otherwise, the Saudis and other Gulf States would probably buy up every US team they could, like they've done in the Premier League in the UK and some other top clubs in Europe.

That might explain the value of the offer, one that the NBA can't refuse.

When has that ever stopped the Lakers before?

Look at how the Dodgers are run. Everything they touch turns to gold. They do everything well. Not just because they spend money most money. Mets and Yankees also spend money. Still can't touch the Dodgers. Lakers winning at least 2 chips before 2030. Let the shambles and rage commence.

Last I checked the Lakers put boot to butt on the Nuggets in their own building. But okay we will see how that works out next year.

What are you even talking about? There’s no reason to be “loyal” to the incompetent nepo baby who was entirely over her head when it came to running the Lakers.

The new Luxury Tax and Apron Tax means the Lakers cannot go out and buy their way to a chip like they did in the past or what the Dodgers currently doing in the MLB.

Jeanie whilst not perfect brought you guys a chip and did a better job than her brothers.

She deserves quite a bit more respect and acknowledgement for her role, especially being a female owner in a cut throat industry dominated by Men.

It's never been harder to win/contend for a chip in today's NBA and era of Parity.

When was the last time the Lakers beat The Nuggets in a play off series (which is all that matters)

Well freakin Arab oil money, of course. That's why valuation is so high. They paid a premium to get in.
