I don't think that these are comparable situations.

Parsons was a Restricted Free Agent. He was pretty much told by Houston to go find a deal. The thinking was that Houston would match it.

Dallas - for whatever reason - locked in on Parsons. They committed to him early while Houston was playing a bigger game. Parsons would have been an absolute fool to turn down that offer that Cuban gave him. He got his money, he got a bigger role. I personally wish that he wouldn't have attacked the city that had been supporting him; but that is water under the bridge at this point.

DJ is an unrestricted free agent who verbally committed to the Mavericks. That team since went about their offseason thinking that this was their framework, only to have this player back out at what is almost literally the 11th Hour.

Yeah, it was a "verbal" agreement; but the way that the NBA offseason is set up a player's word is essentially bond. DJ - while technically doing nothing wrong - kind of broke that bond.

Parsons did what was best for him, and it was unfortunate that the timing didn't work in the Rockets favor. That said, I consider that pretty shrewd by the Mavs. They got their guy. They paid the price they knew the Rockets wouldn't match to do it. Parsons didn't back out after Dallas offered him the deal.

Yeah, I wish we were all as "classy" as the guy who wishes devastating season-ending knee injuries on players. Or the football team you bandwagoned onto that was behind Spygate and Deflategate and employed murderers like Aaron Hernandez and Donté Stallworth, for that matter.

lol!!!! oh yeah im sure the patriots woke up one morning and wanted their most versatile offensive skill player to go and kill people.

True, but on the other hand, Stallworth's DUI/manslaughter certainly didn't stop them from signing that thug. And you've also conveniently ignored the cheating scandals.

I think the point is that if players aren't responsible for their oral commitments, neither are the teams. If a team backs out of a promise of a contract, and the player gets stuck, it's going to be hard to file a grievance when the Union President was sitting in another player's home making sure he backed out of his promise.

Give me 3 scenarios of that hypothetical ever happening....

I'll wait ...lol

No damn team would sully their name like that ...the risk of sullying their name for future free agents would be far too great especially if it went public

Fact is people are huffing and puffing and dropping all of this hyperbolic commentary when in reality There's no rules broken here... The only thing that was broken would be a few fans hearts out in Dallas ...and while it's unfortunate for them ...that's business ... People renege on handshake agreements all the time .... That's why nothing's final until that name is signed on that dotted line

If this becomes the norm, if it occurs more often, then teams that already have a problem attracting FAs wouldn't think twice about backing out of an offer to a middling player who they have to overpay if a better player becomes available. There are a lot of teams that have to overpay for mediocre talent. What punishment are the agents going to hand down to them? No you can't overpay my client when the market is drying up and he really doesn't have any better option?

Ok so let me see if I get were your coming from ..

So a team who already has difficulty landing talent from the get go ...actually lands talent ...but rejects that talent ....because they feel confident they can get better talent...

Ok .... Like I was saying man ....let me know of some actual examples like this happening ... I mean if people are going to throw out these wild hypotheticals I would think they could at least base them in some sort of reality

Reported.

Wishing injury upon a player because you don't like them is just being a scumbag.

Reported for reporting.

Reporting someone for having ill will, or wishing a (sports) injury befall someone is hardly a reportable offense. Way to stay calm and collected there Goebbels. :noway:

He's not looking out for the best interests of his client. Deandre should clearly stay with LAC. Better team, better chance of getting that championship. Shame on Fegan for putting his client's interests beneath his friendship with Cuban. Dude should be fired before Deandre's next hand of poker with Blake and Chris.

Lol wut?

So Fegan forced DJ to sign with Dallas.. After Jordan met with them, had dinner with them, and came to a handshake agreement. That's.. just unbelievable that its the agent's fault that the guy changed his mind

The agent is there to get the client money. The client chooses his location. I cant believe people buy the big bad agent forcing poor DeAndre to a team he didnt want to go to. I'm sure Fegan wanted less money, and thats why he pushed DJ to Dallas.

DeAndre is grown a55 man, people copping pleas, like he is a little kid or something.

Yeah totally! He just have career ending and life affecting injury because he decided last minute what team he wants to play for. Boohoo shutup, he's his own man, grow up. any idea how badly it screws dallas over? he couldn't have just not committed to them? Or you know handle it in a more professional way? Answering Cubans calls for a start as a simple courtesy

This is flat-out a horrible opinion. I don't care how bad this whole circus has been. Wishing an injury upon any player is simply appalling.

The timing is unfortunate for the Mavs but I don't mind him changing his mind.

But I hope it's not true he was avoiding calls from Cuban and Parsons. That's truly pathetic.

Parsons got nothing to back out from, once he signed the contract it's all out of his hands but yeah totally two different situations.

If anything, Bosh's last minute change of heart and bailing on us was similar, although it wasn't as public known as DJ committing to Dallas.

Or hell calling Cuban before all this happened today to let him know. If by all reports the meeting was short, he already knew what he was going to do. Call Cuban, spare everyone the drama and move on. Instead he made this even a worse spectacle for all involved.

a lot of nfl teams have those guys. players get in legal trouble all the time in the NFL. I;m sure if they knew he was a murder they don't draft him. as for the cheating, spygate was bad and i'm not proud of that so there I will admit that. That was Bill's mistake and he was penalized rightfully so. However this deflate crap is stupid. Destory a team 44-6 and have them complain about 1 pound of air pressure, when refs approved game balls 90 minutes before kickoff, then have the reports say "more probable than not" and use that towards the penalty

As someone who has received the total Dan Fegan experiences both with Parsons signing on with him, then the Dwight pursuit, then the suspicious not picking up Parsons option, then Parsons signing with Dallas for max money immediately in FA last year, and now the whole Parsons recruiting DJ to a team crappier team and being seeing in public everywhere, I just find the whole situation stinks. This is the same agent that stirs up Cousins rumors all the time, made Dwight unlikeable the moment he signed up in Orlando, and is infamous for doing package deals for his clients. It’s very possible Jordan has been getting bad advice.

Because let's face it, choosing the Clippers over the Mavericks is the most logical decision in the world.
