That Lorenzo Brown signing was shameful and basketball gods should punish Spain today for that.

While that sucks for Lithuania and basketball in general that teams abuse the naturalized player rule like this, I feel like Spain is easier opponent for Finland compared to Lithuania and Finland actually has a chance to win now. Stylistically Lithuania would have been very hard opponent for Finland. It would've been like Finland-Serbia game against Lithuania maybe. Spain is the favorite against Finland, but as a Finnish fan I feel better about playing vs Spain than I felt about Finland facing Croatia, before the Croatia game.

The rules are the same for every team and have been like that for decades. You use it if you want it.

Lorenzo Brown is not even an end-of-the-bench NBA caliber player, if some national team can't handle him that means they aren't very good.

BTW I don't agree with that rule, and I would like to see some changes in the future. At least FIBA can ask to those naturalized players to have played a minimum of years ( three or more) for their domestic leagues or something like that.

Hi

I disagree, small countries such as Slovenia has problems having deep roster. We have 2 mil people comparing to Germany who has 40x times more at 80mil. I don't see having one naturalized player an issue. I think we can all agree that we all want to see Doncic playing as long as possible in this tournament competition. I think it is good for European basketball as whole.

With how much "conversing" Luka does with the refs, it seems FIBA agrees lol.

In case of Slovenia and Doncic, I'd rather lose proudly with a team of my own countrymen, rather than win with mercs. If Slovenia don't have good bigs, then develop a different kind of game plan. Finland has shown that you can succeed even if your team is somewhat undersized.

Same of course goes for every team. Winning with mercs means nothing. Success with your own countrymen will make everyone proud.

With "mercs" you mean 1 player. There is the same rule for everybody so a team like Slo who doesn't have deep roster must take advantage of it because many opponents will use it. If there is no such rule, then I must imagine Slo is still a great team. Its not like Tobey is such a difference maker.

Which is what makes Lorenzo Brown's naturalization all the more baffling.

That makes Lorenzo Brown's naturalization more irrelevant. He is not a transcendent player.

You can call it irrelevant if you want. The word for me is still baffling. This was the first time that Spain naturalized a player that had absolutely zero connection to their country. All of the naturalized players that Spain has had in the past have had some kind of connection to the country. Brown had none. And as you said, he is not a transcendent player. This is why it is completely baffling to me that Spain, one of the continent's powerhouses, decided to break a tradition that they've been holding on to for years for a player of Brown's caliber. It would be like Serbia deciding to naturalize Doug McDermott. Baffling. Absolutely and unequivocally baffling.

Ih FIBA tournaments, he is an excellent coach. Too many medals with his national team, eurobasket, world cup, summer olympics.
It's not easy to find a coach more successful the last 20 years.

Euroleague is another beast. In Euroleague and local leagues (Spanish league, Italian League, Russian League) he is good but not great, he has some successes and many failures.

Overall, he is undeniably a goood coach, however, there are better European coaches than him, Obradovic (best European coach), Pablo Lasso, Xavi Pasqual, Itoudis. If i could choose a coach in my Greek team, i would prefer even Ataman, Bartzokas, Radonic and others than him.

Scariolo is an excellent manager. He is capable of managing too many European superstars with big Ego in a tournament lasting 15-20 days, and that's a special skill. But if you throw him in Spanish/Italian/Greek/Turkish league, asking him to get the championship, he is not equally great.

Mine too. I love their brand of basketball, they never stop moving ball and bodies. I felt that Valanciunas (who is a great player) doesn't fit their playing style. You can see the team wants to run and shoot all the time but when Val is in they're trying to slow down to get him involved and that kinda ruins their natural run and gun pace. Sabonis isn't a perfect fit either but at least he is smaller, more mobile, and never stops moving. In any case I always enjoy watching them just for the passion and playing style.

I've always thought it made more sense to create the system based on the talent you have; a team whose two best players are Donas and Jonas should be playing a grind it out old school style game.

High-low concepts are not uncommon in any NBA scheme and featured fairly well on teams like the Gasol Lakers or ZBo/Gasol Grizz. Making it worse, Jonas and Domas are both relatively good shooters for their size and both have 3 pt range. Old ideas can be updated. It might make sense to scout perimeter players more for length to prevent penetration like Boston did with Brad Stevens. There is no reason why a team with those two players can't make a good Euro team.

Nah, they're problem is coaching.

Dougy Buckets is twice the player Lorenzo Brown is. Like you said: baffling.

That was a heck of a pass by Miro Little. I want to remind everyone that Miro Little is an 18 year old who plays for Sunrise Christian in the US. It is very likely that we'll hear from him in the future.

Two reasons

1) Most of the Finnish players had never seen Jokic, and they were awestruck.

2) The Serbian playstyle (fast movement, fast ball-movement) is poison vs Finland.

Hard to understand that Finland is leading against the spaniards and it's because of balanced team effort and not because of some insane game from Lauri
