I love Redick, but thats childish as hell.

It's not really. Redick called out the front office and gave them a F- for letting DJ get away. His tweet is stating they now deserve A+ grade. It's not about the Mavs.

Fegan and Cuban were so close to pulling a fast one, so close

I don't believe that crap for a second. That's damage control from DJ & the Clippers. Is Fegan also responsible for DJ not even giving Cuban the courtesy of a call? If Fegan, and not DJ was responsible for DJ's indecisiveness, why didn't the Clippers trust DJ to be left alone until the contract was signed?

Whatever, the Mavericks aren't going to be dealing with the Clippers anytime soon. As soon as Fegan gets paid, he's going to be done with DJ. He reps Austin Rivers right now. We'll see how long that continues. I think people who are talking themselves into the no big deal angle are deluding themselves.

If this becomes the norm, if it occurs more often, then teams that already have a problem attracting FAs wouldn't think twice about backing out of an offer to a middling player who they have to overpay if a better player becomes available. There are a lot of teams that have to overpay for mediocre talent. What punishment are the agents going to hand down to them? No you can't overpay my client when the market is drying up and he really doesn't have any better option?

Ok so let me see if I get were your coming from ..

So a team who already has difficulty landing talent from the get go ...actually lands talent ...but rejects that talent ....because they feel confident they can get better talent...

Ok .... Like I was saying man ....let me know of some actual examples like this happening ... I mean if people are going to throw out these wild hypotheticals I would think they could at least base them in some sort of reality

A team has never done it because players keep their end of the promise 90% of the time. I'm saying that if the right opportunity comes along for the right team, and Jordon situation happens more often, don't be shocked if teams don't feel obligated to keep their word either.

Norms, by definition, only exist because of the expectation that everyone will adhere to them and they will be adhered to in good faith. It use to be normal for one party not to filibuster every nominee. That norm changed and the party in the majority did away with the filibuster for nominees. I find the notion that players will jerk teams around like this, but that teams will feel obligated to adhere to their oral promises to be divorced from reality.

I mean yeah ...like I said bro ...it's cool to hypothesize ....but sometimes it delves into paranoia when those hypotheses seemingly don't have any logical foundation ....I mean again no disrespect but I just don't see a reason why a team in your proposed situation would take that kind of a risk

Clips might not make the finals (or even 3rd round)

But they would out east
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Proceeds to finish 7th and shames the entire nation!

Lol. Sure, a grown man was forced to sign with Dallas. Fegan removed Jordan's hand from his pocket, gave Jordan some peanut butter to keeps his lips moving, then mined "Yes Mr Cuban, I'll sign a max deal with the Mavericks!"

And he would have gotten away with it if it werent for that mangy dog too!

DaFan334 wrote:So what is preventing players/teams from screwing over other teams in manners similar to this in the future. Teams could essentially tell one of there free agents, in order to hurt a rival, commit to signing with them until the free agent pool dries up, then renege and come back to their original team.

It would be a strategy that could hurt division and conference rivals that as of right now, really couldn't be stopped and could really screw a team over for at least one year.

Suns blew up their roster just on the hope they might get LMA to give them a promise. Don't think this will change ****. Dumb will be dumb.

I was thinking the same thing, Clippers just saved their perennial 2nd round exit.

Super for them

What did the Rockets do with their WCF birth ? Get embarassed that's what. Clips were mentally weak for choking vs you guys I'll say that much but with another year together, plus with the guys they added saying the Clips aren't a contender is blasphemous. Seeding/matchups in the West can always throw things off too. Clips have a legit shot at the WCF if they can learn from their mistakes.

Next time Cuban try to be more honest and less of a car salesman and keep your lacky Parsons on his lease.

How in the hell is this Dallas' fault. They made their pitch just like any other team would.... I totally disagree with you. This is on the NBA for allowing such a period where teams are left at the mercy of a players word. Teams need to be protected. Silver the ball is in your court.

Teams should not be allowed to use high pressure tactics. That is the problem. And the NBA is doing the right thing at least allowing the cool down period. Cuban is no different than those slimy salesman selling timeshares using dirty tactics such as getting the husband and wife drunk. In no case are the Clippers, the NBA or especially DJ to blame for this.

I think I know why you are blaming the Mavericks...
