NBA realgms are honestly just incompetent for the most part, there are only a handful that really know what they're doing (Masai is one) the rest kinda seem like they're just spitballing hoping a few stick here and there.
This is true, it makes you wonder what the path is to become a GM. Could someone on this forum get there?
im sure it's possible, Spencer from the draft board did consulting for NBA teams (maybe still does).
mademan wrote:Masai got there working for free as a scout and working his way up. I'm guessing if youre motivated enough and got enough resiliency to failure, many could work there way to a FO position.
So scouting talent seems to be the best way to get there. I suppose it's hard to prove success or failure in a shorter time frame than a year. Seems like Ujiri took 5 years to break-through to a paid role.

I mean, I guess technically he backed up his talk in that Zion wasn’t able to dunk on him, but he did put up 32/11/4 in that game.

Didn’t Zion finish an and 1 that tied the game over Tacko in the waning seconds?

Yep, he got the And 1. Tacko should have just fouled him hard, but he had 4 fouls and was trying to not foul out. In hindsight... he should have just crushed Zion, but it is what it is. That was a heart breaker lol...
Regardless... the impact Tacko had on Zion that game was huge.

A little late but Wednesday against the Mavs Ja had 21pts on 10-12 from the field (1-2 from 3) with 3 assists.
Clarke had 18pts on 7-10 from the field (1-2 from 3) with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block.

Yeah Gafford is a top 10 pick in a redraft. Easily take him over White #7.
Him and Clarke, Porter have played way above their draft position.

With Ja looking likely for a Unanimous ROTY campaign who do we think comes 2-5 and all rookie teams?
1) Ja
2) Zion
3) MPJ
4) Nunn
5) Davis
All Rookie Teams:
Ja/Garland
Nunn/Davis
MPJ/Barrett
Zion/Rui
Clarke/Paschall

Re: Rookie Discussion [19/20] [part I]
I was trying to think of where to post this, and this is as good a place as any. A few weeks ago after Morant had another great performance social media was abuzz and Shannon Sharpe and T-Mac in particular had some hot takes. Sharpe said Morant will have a better career than Zion and McGrady said he’s going to be an MVP and the best player in the game.
T-Mac’s statement isn’t so egregious on its own, but the point is that they were both saying these things without having seen Zion play a game yet. He’s only 8 games in but he’s had an incredibly strong start to his career and I’m not sure whose better between the two. I just don’t get the rush to ‘anoint’ someone as the best this, or best that, especially when the #1 pick in his draft hasn’t played yet.
Zion through 8 games: 20/7.5/2 on 61%TS and a 22.5 PER
The Pelicans are quite a bit better with him on the floor and it’s CLEAR when watching them that they are.

Ja with the triple double to lead Memphis back from a double digit deficit. Not too shabby.
