Really disappointed in Gerald Green and James White, especially White when he hyped it all up on twitter.

From the microphones not working to Nick Cannon to Rick Fox to the Houston crowd to all the favorites losing in their respective competitions to the terrible musical selection to the terrible musical performances to the East/West idea to the god-awful 1st round of the dunk contest to the obviously rigged results (not saying Ross shouldn't have won but it was clearly fixed) -- you simply cannot dispute this was embarrassingly bad on all fronts.
Kyrie Irving, though.

Re: 2013 All Star Saturday Thread
these dunks were good, if LeBron did any dunk that Ross did people would be jizzing all over the place. Blake Griffin did average dunks and people were going crazy because he was a marketable player who people knew.
Dunk contest will be back when guys like Westbrook, Rose, LeBron join.

No one has liked any dunk by a non-star player, ever.
A star could do a layup and get more respect than these guys.

Kenny was awful. I get Charles hating on the dunks and players but Kenny's job is to scream like an idiot and hype the dunk contest up. Instead he realized he looked like a fool after claiming it to be one of the top 10 of all time and started ragging on everyone.

Re: 2013 All Star Saturday Thread
^Honestly, looking at those dunks...what was so bad about them?
1st dunk: Green reverse off the side of the backboard...that was a pretty sweet dunk...don't think it was worth a 50, but a solid 45+
2nd dunk: White two-handed dunk from just inside the FT line...really underrated, I don't think people realize how hard this was, most people that jump from that distance can only dunk with one arm with their entire body extended...I'd have given this a 50
3rd dunk: Ross behind the back 360...this was a little weak, only because he didn't have the lift/power on the finish, and it was like his 5th attempt...40+, would have been a 45ish if he didn't need as many attempts
4th dunk: Faried off the backboard 360...was a little weak as well, because he had a pretty weak finish...would have given him a 40-45, thought it was a little underrated by the judges, only giving him a 39
5th dunk: Bledsoe touching the backboard, mini 360...again, pretty weak, and it took him a ton of attempts...I'd have given it high 30s maybe
6th dunk: Evans taking the ball out of the hands of a seated Mark Eaton and reversing it over him...this was a lot better than people are giving it credit for, I don't think people realize how difficult it is to take it out of someone's hand as opposed to having them toss it to you, and then reversing it on top of that? This should have easily been a 50...I guess some of the flair was gone because it took him a bunch of attempts, but people should have given him more credit for the difficulty of the dunk
7th dunk: Green couldn't complete a dunk in time
8th dunk: White couldn't complete a dunk in time
9th dunk: Terrence Ross self bounce pass, one-handed 360...actually thought it was a little overrated, but very solid dunk, I'd have given it a 45+
10th dunk: Faried off the backboard, between the legs...excellent dunk, because he did it in a surprisingly quick motion, and had some impressive power behind it...again, though, maybe a little overrated, because it's not something that hasn't been done better before, but I'd have given it a 45+
11th dunk: Bledsoe self bounce pass, two-handed reverse windmill...outstanding dunk, easily a 50 imo
12th dunk: Evans 360 with two basketballs...pretty weak tbh, wasn't a lot of power, and I don't think it was THAT difficult...40ish imo
13th dunk: Evans windmill with the left hand over a picture of himself that he signed right after...pretty underrated imo...very creative, a nice touch with the signature at the end, and it was a pretty impressive dunk too...wouldn't have complained if he got a 50, but anything 45+ would have been fair
14th dunk: Ross wearing the Carter jersey with a 360 tomahawk off the side of the backboard...easily a 50, this was a really sweet dunk
15th dunk: Evans with the "jumpman logo" dunk over Dahntay Jones...really nice dunk, definitely a 45+, wouldn't have complained if it was a 50
16th dunk: Ross between the legs over a kid...another easy 50...again, don't think people realize how difficult this was...that was special
Yes, the missed dunks by Green and White in the 2nd round, as well as some of the dunks taking forever to actually succeed may have killed some of the mood, but you know who the biggest culprits are for why this dunk contest just didn't feel that great, even though reviewing those dunks above, many of them were pretty sweet? Kenny, Chuck, and the crowd. Even Shaq was trying to get people excited, he was actually playing Kenny's part, because Kenny acted like nothing was impressing him, even though he's creamed his pants in the past over inferior dunks.
A huge part of what makes these dunk contests memorable is the commentators going crazy, and the crowd going crazy. Neither was happening, and it was like they all were too preoccupied with the fact that there was nobody of note dunking, and they weren't actually focusing on how good/difficult the dunks were. And I can't 100% blame Kenny and Chuck either, because a lot of their reaction feeds off the crowd's energy, and if the crowd goes nuts, they go nuts. The crowd was dead the entire night, and that killed the mood more than anything. Pretty unfair to the fans and the players imo, because like I said, reviewing the dunks from the contest, most of them were pretty impressive, and I think us as fans would have enjoyed it a hell of a lot more if there was just more energy from the commentators and the crowd. They were huge buzzkills.

Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

Re: 2013 All Star Saturday Thread
Bledsoe and Ross saved the dunk contest.
I don't want to see Green or White back in it. They both had their chances and blew it - they also swore after each missing, this is an event with a lot of kids around. They should both be fined.
Back to the contest, it was weak. These guys all needed so many attempts. I miss the days of Jordan/ Wilkins/ Webb, but I also miss the days of Brown/ Ceballos/ Kemp/ LJ, and even Rider. I miss seeing Carter, T-Mac, Kobe, Richardson etc. It really has fallen off over the last few years. It's becoming a prop show, and I believe Blake Griffin, Nate Robinson and Dwight Howard completely ruined the dunk contest

Re: 2013 All Star Saturday Thread
Super slow-mo on Ross. The hangtime/coordination needed to spin while going behind the back is insane. Went back and watched JR Smith just do it without a spin and this was much harder. He barely got it because he had to cradle it after putting it around back but he did it with such force that you couldn't really tell in realtime because the dual spinning motion was almost hypnotizing. Also impressive that he started the behind the back motion whole in the air. No cheating there.

Also, the 360 tomahawk off the side of the backboard is one of the best dunks in dunk contest history. Watch that one in slow-mo and look at all the details. It's incredible.

Re: 2013 All Star Saturday Thread
Quick question, but were they using the old synthetic balls that they were trying out a few years ago during the Saturday night festivities? Like during the 3-point shootout, the dunk contest, were they using that old ball? It just looks "different" to me where those black lines are and stuff.
