Because rumours have it Bynum will resign in Houston and Howard will not. The Lakers are the ones gambling here.

As of 24hrs ago, it was reported that Bynum would not sign with Houston. Now all of a sudden he changed his mind? If so, Hoston better sign him before making the trade. I wouldn't trust him on his word alone

No, the report was he wouldn't sign an "immediate" extension with ORLANDO. That seems like it's bad news but it's really non-news. Neither Howard with any team or Bynum with any team are going to sign immediate extensions. They may verbally commit but that isn't binding. Players can make more money letting their deals expiring and then re-signing versus extending early. It's why Chris Paul hasn't extended with the Clippers yet.

excuse me while i LAUGH!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahahahaha.

If this deal goes down, it should be stickied for all time to laugh at this ridiculous trade.

Nets trade is better.

No it's not.

Expirings, trading JRich (and possibly Duhon), young talent, Raptors lotto pick > overpaying Lopez for the next 5 years

WHAT YOUNG TALENT?

In the Nets trade they dump J-Rich too. You're really saying Raptors pick > Lopez + 4 future 1sts...

I think any team rebuilding would rather have a lottery pick than a maxed Lopez and 3 role players. Lopez would give you worse lottery odds while not being a player you want to build around. The magic would essentially end up with an extra lottery pick to go with how every many years they are in the lottery giving them a better chance at a franchise player.

I could see that happening.

What I could imagine is complicating matter is the Lakers lack of positive assets outside of Bynum.

The Lakers need to take back a bad contract but they would have to send out one to be able to do that...

It's hard to make a fair trade across the board...

Wow, I think I take the Hawks deal before I do this deal.

So other words, Rockets is helping Lakers again with a getting another championship.

First why would the rockets help la get Howard. That would be stupid. Second whys la even included in the trade. All the players are going to the magic from the rockets.

How about Lopez and Brooks to the rockets and three first rounder picks from the nets and the three first rounders from the rockets with filler players for salary to the magic.

Bynum is worth that much?
How about Houston waits till next off season to sign Bynum while retaining all their assets? Sounds like a better plan considering Bynum seems unhappy on the Lakers.

If the Rockets are going after Bynum now, they won't give up White, Lamb, Motie, and Parsons....

If Bynum wants to stay in LA, Bynum should troll again like he did before. Bynum said he wouldn't extend with the Magic.

Now he should say he wouldn't extend with the Rockets and will test free agency when the time comes.

A maxed out Lopez is a negative asset and late 1st round picks from the Nets are not very valuable.

If the three teams are really discussing a deal where Howard goes to LA and Bynum goes to Houston, best believe the Magic are getting some assets out it.

Probably Artest and Duhon thrower around somewhere

Lakers are the first to call the Nets offer trash... yet you propose this..

 I was thinking the same thing.

But Lamb/White/Picks/Filler isn't bad

When a player is happy they don't say I'll play anywhere when asked if they want to stay. But thats exactly what Bynum said.

Well an extended Bynum would have pretty decent value to the Rockets.
