Meh.....depends on the team drafting.

Look at what the Spurs have done.

Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler, and Niko Mitoric were all late round picks or acquired for late round picks.

Hit on some of those picks, and you can extend a title window. Bulls were able to trade-up into the late lottery to get McD because we had multiple picks to move. It is why the Bulls has another title window after this one (Noah/Gasol/Gibson/MDJ) assuming they can keep them together.

So you leave it to the "chance" that you hit in draft with some "future" draft picks that have protections? That sounds better to you than to fill a hole and help your current contending team with players named Lebron, Irivng, Love (in their primes I must add)?

As I stated...it depends on the team. Some teams are much better at drafting than others. I think they were wise to fill their holes, but you are the one that said you don't understand the obsession with future picks.

I should've been more specific, my bad. I meant the obsessions with the future picks used in this trade :D

I find this fine honestly. Even better if they collect Sam Dalembert.
certainly gives them a better chance in the east now. .

Depends on the day, fact is Mozgov is a confidence player, when he is feeling good and playing good, he gets better. When he is having a bad game or a bad week it seems to build and he is much less effective.

Koufos is just Koufos, he is the same guy every game, whether it goes good or bad he is basically the same player every night.

At his best Mozzy is clearly better, at his worst Mozzy deserved to be 3 on the depth chart behind Koufos and McGee.

Depends, some people seem to think 1st round picks are gold, I do not since I have studied them for years. The fact is an average starting center is easily worth a couple of future 1sts that are likely to be later picks to a team that needs a starting center.

We just flipped just flipped 2018 second-round pick, Memphis's heavily protected 1st rounder and Dion Waiters for Iman Shumpert, JR Smith and Timofey Mozgov.

I'm ecstatic.

Well yeah, if you ignore the fact that these were two different trades its fine.

It was three different trades, including the Keith Bogan's trade. Hell, we got the Memphis pick for Jon Leuer way back. You could say we got Mozgov, Shumpert and JR Smith for Dion Waiters and Jon Leuer if you look at the whole picture. Cavs don't care about picks in the 20's or that might materialize in 3 year (and even then, rookies will take years to actually contribute), they have Lebron and Love now. This is whatever one was harping on and now suddenly the Cavs are fools for not stockpiling late 1st rounders? What?

The Cavs replace Dion with JR Smith and got a wing defender and a true center. I'm ecstatic.

OhMyBosh wrote:These picks are heavily protected over the next 3 years, after which they become 2 second round picks. You can live with that payment to have a shot at the title this year.

For some teams, there is value in late first rounders (Spurs, Bulls, Denver). But I think even Cleveland has to be honest with themselves and admitting that they are terrible at drafting besides selecting the consensus #1 picks. Those late mid to late first rounders would garner very little returns if we're looking at historical track records anyway for Cleveland. So really, it's a benefit that the Cavs are able to get at least some assets for their picks.

The Memphis pick is unprotected in 2019 and will never be a 2nd round pick, most likely it will be a pick around 20-22 in 3 years. The OKC pick is heavily protected but will likely if they sneak into the playoffs this year the Nuggets will get it this year, otherwise it will likely be next year.

I'm not saying this a bad deal for Denver. I think this is win-win trade.

Knick fan here...Overpay... Mozgov is a nice decent center, but in no way is he worth 2 first

It was not cleveland first rounders and both are protected pretty heavily. Cleveland doesn't need these picks they looking for now.

Did DEN give up a 2nd rounder also? Our beat reporter is saying that.

If it is included that helps a bit because I imagine it would be a high 2nd rounder which can net you a 1st round talent without the guaranteed contract (assuming DEN didn't put protections on the 2nd rounder).

So effectively Cavs give up Dion, protected Memphis pick, a 2nd rounder & some scrubs for JR, Iman and Mozgov..

Not bad GM Lebron, not bad at all.

? I'm trying to understand what you are looking for. Maybe a critic of the Cavs drafting?
