Hate to say this but Yall never should’ve traded OG. Biggest mistake by Massai imo

I don't think any Raptors fan regrets the OG trade....both him and Siakam will make too much money, and they weren't producing us the results (wins) that would justify the contracts.

Or your supposed big market owner couldn't afford them. Sad that he dumped your best 2 players and then tanked for the 6th pick in a terrible draft and didn't even get it.
Raised ticket prices too.

Atlanta goes really young like OKC did.

Bring in #1, #4, #8 as a new Core.

Has any team ever gone into training camp with 3 top 10 picks that season?

That would be like Dallas trading for Porzingis, but worse. I get that it's a weak draft, but don't trade #4 , #8 AND future picks for a flawed player

Will have to do some research, but not seeing how Sarr is better than Capella or Okongwu considering his weaknesses. Im thankful, but what a bad year to get a number 1 pick.

Its also kind of crazy how the Hawks went from being a "terrible team that doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs" to being "too good" to receive the number pick 1.

Wait. A team that played in the play-in just got the number one pick. Isn't that what everyone wanted? To curtail this imaginary thing known as "tanking"?

I love it. I would rather reward teams stuck in mediocrity, or as we mock them around here as treadmill teams. Give them a chance to make a real improvement instead of the usual "only way to go get out of the middle is blow it up" mantra.

.. at the price of keeping hopeless teams stuck in the basement, even when they aren’t trying to tank?

Sign some vets, stop sitting guys with phantom injuries (like Charlotte this year and Portland the last couple years). It's not hard at all in the NBA to be a .500 team. Look at my Bulls year after year. Anybody can be us. Reward teams that aren't good but still attempt win-now moves and refuse to tank.

We were going nowhere with those 2 players anyway. What sucks is we didn't trade them sooner when they actually had value. Asset management post the championship season has been a disaster.

They could shop it around too and see what the pick can fetch.

That's how bad the Pistons and the Wizards were/are...

falling to 5th 3 years in a row actually is very unlikely given the odds, less than 10%

That's more likely than any other outcome though, by far (if we're talking any of 5-7 in 2022).

Don't think that's true. They've had over a 50% chance at landing top-4 in each of the last 2 years. That means they had over a 75% chance at landing in the top 4 at least ONCE in the last 2 drafts. Hitting 5th twice was something like 23% odds.

Again, DET didn’t tank. It WAS hard for them to be a .500 team. You believe ATL is more deserving of a top pick than DET?

If the Hawks are going to move on from Trae, picking Topic would be a good bet.

At least that's how I think it works.

If you're combining 1-4, yes. I'm talking about individual positions.

This isn't a great draft but a top 3 pick would still be valuable to a rebuilding team.

As a Rockets fan, which player on a losing-ish team would you be looking at?

Everyone is calling this a bad draft but the Hawks should take 3 of them????

There's gonna be at least a couple of stars in there. If you've got that many picks at the top you've got a decent shot at finding them lol

I think the argument is that there are teams who are in a worse situation than the hawks that need the pick like the Pistons. It’s not that the Hawks are any good but they are sure better than Portland and Detroit.

I believe that it WAS hard (likely impossible) for DET to be a .500 team.

There is a limited amount of resources in each draft, most of that value at the top. Hawks fans have an okay product where they won nearly half their games. They are much closer to getting out of mediocrity on their own than the Pistons are.

I'm not sure Topic would play over Bufkin let alone Murray, if they traded Trae. Atlanta is the last team that needs a PG.
