It's a small sample though. If he goes 0 for 4 next game then he's shooting equivalent to Thybulle did as a rookie from 3.

But the shot does look fairly solid.

It's not about efficiency. He could do the same things he has done thus far and drop all the way down to 30% and it would still be an incredible turnaround. He has turned from a virtual non-shooter in college to a confident high-volume shooter in his first NBA season. That's the real story here.

No love for Ryan Dunn? Just an afterthought and lumped into the "other" category while grossly exceeding all expectations? Okay.

To be fair, this poll was made before the expectations were being exceeded, and can you really fault someone for not including the 28th pick in a poll that is limited to 10 options?

There is plenty of Ryan Dunn love in this thread to keep me smiling!

I agree Dunn should be in there, but to be fair to our hero Bisme, nobody expected this from Dunn before the season. I'd be surprised if any non-Suns fan would have put him in the poll at that point so you gotta let that one go. He was the 28th pick in a terrible draft, a true steal. I love watching this kid, he's exactly what Phoenix needs and should start.

Is Sheppard going to get much playing time this year? Are they a playoff or play in team. I was curious to see what Sheppard would do this year.

Watching the Suns/Blazers game, looks like it’s not just Tyus Jones, Coach Bud had them playing for each other. There were multiple passes every possession, all with a purpose.

Sarr averaging more blocks (2.8) than fouls (2.6) and under 5 fouls per 48 minutes through 5 games. Pretty remarkable for a rookie bigman playing against starters, and really shows his footwork and body coordination.

Just grabbed him in Fantasy. I think he's got a really good shot at ROY.

What’s going on with Reed Sheppard? Everyone and their mom was hyping him up crazy after the summer league.

He's playing on one of the deepest rosters in the league. If he was drafted by the Wizards or the Jazz, he would be playing.

I agree he'd play more on a junk team but HOU's roster's not really that deep, it's just interesting cuz so much of the rotation is good young guys. At the 1 and 2 there's the starters (FVV + Jalen Green) but really no back ups. Guess Amen and Whitmore can sometimes play the 2 but there's clearly space for a guy like Sheppard.

Think it's more that Udoka doesn't love Sheppard yet, is trying to win, and can't hand out developmental minutes. And probably doesn't see any need to for a 20 year old.

Ron Holland's defense and hustle has been really impressive and was a factor in the win over the Lakers today. Unfortunately his three point shot has been putrid so far. I'm sure Fred Vinson will continue to put him through his paces.

Pelle Larsson played the final minutes of a close game for us and with his performance he most likely earned rotation minutes

This draft class is generational...ly bad?

Time to temper the outlook for the '24 draft class

Image

The level of excitement among NBA scouts and executives about the 2024 draft cycle could have been described as muted. That feeling has been reflected tangibly in the early on-court evidence: Just eight rookies are averaging more than 20 minutes a game, and three of those play for the Wizards.

Among top names in the class:
  • No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher is shooting just 32.9% from the field.
  • No. 2 pick Alexandre Sarr is blocking nearly three shots per game but has struggled with his offensive efficiency.
  • No. 3 pick Reed Sheppard hasn't carved out a regular role yet in Houston.
  • Zach Edey, a popular Rookie of the Year pick, has battled foul trouble while adjusting to the speed of the NBA game.
The list goes on.

There have been a few bright spots among the rookie class, if not seismic ones. The aforementioned Wells looks like a find for Memphis. Ryan Dunn (No. 28) has made an unexpected shooting leap in Phoenix that's turning him into a key role player on a team with big aspirations. He shot 23% from 3 at Virginia and is now making 39% from NBA range on nearly five attempts per game. Yves Missi (No. 21) has made positive contributions as a shot-blocker and rim-rummer for the injury-depleted New Orleans Pelicans.

The flow of the season will create opportunities for other rookies to step up, and front offices will be closely monitoring the development of this class.
