I never understood why fans care so much about this. Even if the ratings are reduced by half overnight and then by half again in 3 years time, the NBA would still be by far the richest basketball league in the world and able to attract the top talent of the world. Even if the next TV contract is only 25% of the one it just signed, the NBA would be in a league of its own financially among basketball leagues. The owners and the players will make a lot less money, but I couldn't care less about this, they will be millionaires and billionaires.

How quickly can they make a decision to change where a game is being broadcast? I'm curious about this. Obviously there's planning and stuff that goes into this, but of course they didn't expect Houston to be a top team, so they weren't going to prioritize games including them on primetime.

Currently, only the Prime Time partners (ESPN, TNT) can flex a game to their national broadcast, and it has to be a few weeks (months?) out.

This hopefully will be rectified as soon as NEXT season with all the new streaming broadcast partners on various networks on various days (Amazon, Peacock).
NFL currently can make these changes days or weeks ahead of time -- depending on the day and time of the game.

Bigger Question: Would this supreme NBA Matchup even stand a chance against NFL Sunday or College Football Rivalry week?

Why show OKC/HOU when you can talk about the Lakers during that time and how much more help LeBron needs lol.

Oh okay, that makes sense, well that's tough then because seasons aren't really going to play out as you expect.

If they can find a way to make it more flexible that would certainly be ideal for them.

I imagine fans who are unhappy with the product realize the only surefire way they'll see change is if the ratings drop and the NBA's partners become unhappy with the product. Alas, their engagement with the product still feeds it, even indirectly.

The thing is the game is doing just fine by most metrics but the problem are the die hards and old heads who are begging for a game that no longer exist and want to see the league fail to see it happen. Its just ridiculous.

No. We want it to get better because right now it sucks ass.

We still have the desire for competitive sport in us and desire watching it at the highest level. We don’t want to watch glorified pick up ball.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

You are proving my point; you sound like an old head. Going with your personal feelings of what the league used to be, facts be damned.

Most metrics indicates the game is growing, yet the game "sucks ass" because you believe the game has become a glorified pickup game. Let's disregard the fact that that attendance is high around the league, social media engagement is high, and the NBA scored record high media deals. These things would not happen if the game "sucked ass", lol.

NBA viewership is so down they barely even discuss it on debate shows anymore lol

They will discuss a LeBron topic maybe once a week other than that it's all NFL talk.

You must live under a rock?

It's literally impossible not to watch them if you have any kind of social media.

Maybe in like 2021. Undisputed just got canceled. Lol

Skip and Shannon were the last relevant debate show. Then Shannon moved on to Club Shay Shay and Skip’s career fell off so hard he retired lol.

Those debate shows are beyond over.

Hot take I don’t like the nba or nfl anymore. NBA sucks because of the three and nfl run game is non existent. Moved to watching soccer and chess!
