I know Wemby’s off to an incredible start and if it was a 4 game award he’d have it locked, but I gotta vote SGA until they lose a game. Thunder could easily end up with 70 wins. Spurs are gonna fall off eventually and end up in that 50 win range.

Thunder have had a lot of injuries, but they’re so deep they’re still running good players out there. They’re positive in the minutes Shai’s off the floor this year.

take SGA and Chet off the team and they aren't winning anything with a lineup of caruso, wiggins, jaylin, hartenstein. it's a joke.
jokic got 56 points from gordon one game. murray is averaging 30.3/5/6.

Thunder repeatedly called the deepest team in the league, easily have the most defensive versatility but somehow SGA is doing a carry job.

I get what you're trying to say, but if sga is running a dleague team, what the hell is Giannis running, lol?

So take off the first and third best player on the team. Aswell as the second best player (J-dub) and their first team all defence wing (Dort) and yes, OKCs team doesn’t look as strong. Shocking revelation. How would Denver look without Jokic Murray Gordon and Cam Johnson?

Its very rare to give the mvp award to a player over 30years old. It is maybe the last chance for Giannis and Jokic to go for one more.

We're not buying it fam. And your argument is weak. Take two of the three best players off a team while their 2nd best player is injured and of course they're not winning anything. What is Denver winning without Jokic and Gordon? What is Boston winning without Tatum and White? Would GS win in 2022 without Curry and Thompson (or Green/Wiggins)? Exactly :noway:

Right now the MVP is Giannis. But even talking about MVP after 4 games is stupid.

This is a thing I've been thinking about lately. There hasn't been a 30 year old MVP since Nash about 20 years ago.

But meanwhile in the '90s, Magic, Jordan, Olajuwon & Malone all did it.

So what's changed?

I think the big thing is mostly that veterans used to take the regular season more seriously relative to younger players, but now veterans conserve energy.

Why did that change? I'll say:

a) You used to be able to coast without it appearing to be coasting because everyone did it. Nowadays though, with everything so hyper-optimized, young guys are expected to go all out at fast pace all year - since that leads to better basketball - but veterans are believed to be unable to handle that wear.

b) The most damaging thing to the regular season was probably the Warriors going 73-9 in '15-16 and then losing in the finals. After that everyone realizes that if you don't win the chip, any effort you put in special for the regular season is just used to mock you afterward. That 73-9 went from being the greatest regular season in history to a punchline because the Warriors lost Game 7, and so now the 73-9 is probably an unbreakable record because no one will want to break it.

Regardless, yeah, I think it's entirely possible we're now going to make the transition from the Giannis-Embiid-Jokic-Shai generation to the Wemby generation, and that from here on out, those born before the year 2000 don't win MVPs.
