Lonzo with 11/8/9 in the 4th quarter.
Kuzma with 17 points in the 4th.

If Lonzo can tweek his shot and get more consistent over the summer, next year, Lonzo will be huge.

Magic? Shaq? Cummings? Russell?

I'd find it hard to make a top ten list as there have been a lot of dominant rookies. I think however it's more impressive now as so few players do four years in college and come in as a high pick. Guys like Wilt, Russell and Kareem were already physically dominant by the time they got to the pros.

This is really a difficult top 10 to do. Much harder than top 10 all time I'd think. Shaq, CP3, Magic, Grant Hill, Webber, Alonzo, Yao all incredible rookie seasons.

It’s definitely arguable. For starters Shaq averaged 23, 11 and 3 bpg his rookie year and doubled the Magic win total from I think 21 to 41. I think what Simmons is doing is pretty special. I think that what Mitchell is doing hasn’t been seen from a guard rookie since maybe Lillard. (Slightly different styles but not majorly different).

Some have acknowledged that rookies the last century were usually seniors and also juniors from college. To see one and dones or sophomores come out and be as dominant as these two (and others this and previous years) is really a testament to how good they are.

As for the ROTY race, there may still be a twist or 2 left. Right now I’d say it’s about even.

You notice Sixers’ fans specifically because you’re usually checking tweets about Mitchell. Look at the first response to this tweet from the highlights from last game. I read ‘Mitchell’s better’ anytime I expand a tweet about Simmons. Lol.

Tweets about Simmons will have Mitchell responses and tweets about Mitchell will have Simmons responses. Just got to ignore it.

Good point actually. Twitter isn't the best place for civil debate with intelligent people.

Shame that Ben gets triple-doubles and sits out the fourth.

This years race is similar to when Lebron (similar in this case to Simmons) and Carmelo (similar in this case to Mitchell) battled it out. It was close in Lebron and Carmelo’s rookie seasons when they battled it out however you could still see that Lebron (just like Simmons) had the much better physical intangibles to have a much better career and undoubtedly will.

Kuzma with 25 points and 10 rebounds. In the highlights, Kuzma is dunking, driving and scoring both from mid-range and a ton from 3 point range. Not bad for the #27th pick in the draft.

Well, thats not what the NBA PIE finds at all, so you might have misheard or they might have misstated.

Here are Mitchell's 4th qtr stats:

Donovan Mitchell 7.7 min 15.8 PIE

Players with at least 50 games and 6 min per 4th quarter with higher PIE:

LeBron James 23.1
Anthony Davis 21.8
Russell Westbrook 20.9
Giannis Antetokounmpo 20.5
Chris Paul 19.0
DeMar DeRozan 18.8
James Harden 18.4
Joel Embiid 18.0
Damian Lillard 17.7
Andre Drummond 17.6
Victor Oladipo 17.1
Kyrie Irving 16.8
Kevin Durant 16.7
Kyle Lowry 16.3
Kemba Walker 16.3
LaMarcus Aldridge 16.3
David West 15.9

Clutch and 4th qtr are different animals. Each shrinking the whole subset of player stats further. At some point we end up with someone posting a single youtube clip and saying that the player is 100% when guarded by player X and almost doubled by player 2, which is obviously the most meaningful situation ever and will exactly mimic a finals never to happen but imagine if it did.

Sometimes it gets forgotten, but there is a lot of value in not throwing out 3/4ths (or 9/10ths) of a rookie season, at least from a statistical point of view.

Was responding to the third line of his original quote "clutch", where he equated fourth quarter efficiency with being clutch.

This is the Colangelo trade that angered me the most from last draft. We trade back into the first round and draft a garbage Euro stash instead of taking Kuzma.

Kuzma would have fit perfectly and anchored our second unit.

Congrats to your GM for not blowing it like ours.

Raptors traded that 25th pick (eventually acquired by Bryan ColonJello) to Orlando for Ibaka as well when it could have been used to draft Kuz. Don't know why Masai traded away a pick for a non-difference maker like Rudy Bargnani, especially when he admitted he wanted Kuzma. OG Anunoby and Kyle Kuzma starting on the same team is a beastly rookie combo.

Ibaka is horrendously inconsistent flaming trash who can't defend and will shoot the Raptors out of the playoffs Harrison Barnes-style. If Raptors had Kuzma they wouldn't have to worry about that sh**. Lakers got a good one with Kuzma!

Ibaka was suppose to be this unicorn. He may have peaked around 2013. He used to get tons of blocks. But his defense has really suffered in recent years.
