And I didn't say he would get there, I'm saying IF he could.

All of those players you mentioned were/are going to be all NBA level players... and I am not even going to include players like Tony Parker, Lillard, Irving, Wall who are at clearly better players than Williams is at right now. The idea that maybe Westbrook is worse than your version of healthy verison Williams kinda says alot about your perception of him.
Tony Parker? Ok. Irving? No. Lillard? Maybe. Wall? Not for me.

For all the talk of Deron sucking this playoffs (and he deserved all the criticism), Wall was pretty awful as well, a couple games aside. He's really inefficient, and can be a really poor decision maker at times. Irving hasn't done anything to warrant top 5 PG status, other than some pretty stats and an aesthetically pleasing game.

Keep in mind, that I'm not comparing current Deron to those players. This whole thing is a hypothetical to begin with. You keep comparing those players to current Deron. No **** they're better than what Deron was this year.

He also forgot to also include Lowry, Dragic, Bledsoe & Conley as point guards ahead of DWill. :D

For the record, DWill never demanded a trade. He showed up to the Jazz practice facility one day and saw the news on ESPN. They just shipped his ass out. I believe he liked it in SLC and might have resigned there....but the Jazz front office was tired of dealing with the demanding little bitch.

Deron Williams was terrible vs the Heat, and pretty average all season long. Not exactly what you're looking for in a "star". I'd trade him if I could get any value in return if I am the Nets. He's pretty overrated

People need to realize that It was just Sloan who made him looks like the best PG in the league.

And Teague, Lawson, Rondo, Kemba, Rose, Jrue, Isaiah, Rubio, MCW. There are at least 15 point guard better then Deron right now. More on there way too. Williams is the worst contract in the league right now (Gerald Wallace is a close second), and it's amazing Billy King has a job...

A young DWill is probably on the same level as John Wall, but he's just lost a step or something, maybe he's not motivated? I'm not sure. I really would be surprised if we see the Deron Williams liof old ever again.

Knicks have limited options for potential upgrades.

Knicks get: Deron

Nets get: Hardaway Jr, Bargnani, and Felton which clears $15 million in cap for next summer since Bargs is expiring.

The other trade is

Pistons get: Deron

Nets get: Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings

That trade would not make sense for the Nets cap wise because it would make it worse.

Not for nothing..but I remember when everyone was counting out Chris Paul several years ago when he was going through tough injuries. Some here were even saying he should retire! How about the couple years where Curry couldn't stay on the floor because of his glass ankles. And Derrick Rose now? Point is, players go through stretches of seasons with lingering injuries. I can see Dwill bouncing back. He's had stretches still where he can play like a top PG. I really think he was just injured and frustrated this season. Hurt ankles are no joke. Anyone who plays basketball knows this.

His ankle issues are a chronic thing at this point though. He was diagnosed with ankle synovitis a couple of years ago, which doesn't really get better.

And he's going to be 30 years old at the start of next year. CP3 was like 26/27, Curry was like 23, and Derrick Rose is like 25. Players don't usually become healthier after 30, they usually get injured even more.

He looked better in the beginning on the Nets. I'd also say there's a difference between looking like a top 3 PG and being a 16/3/7 per 36 PG which is what he was this year.

He's had fitness and injury issues that seem to be the bigger factor in his decline, not any sort of need for a coach or certain system. Even without Sloan, healthy he should be about a 19/3/9 player.

The issue though is that those 3 dudes you listed have shown they have some heart. Deron Williams on the other hand does not have any.

Not sure if you remember Chris Paul in those days...he looked frustrated and emotionally, sad. But he was younger. I think Paul relies more on athleticism than dwill though. His ankles really mess with the lift on his shot. I'm not trying to make excuses for Dwill but I would like to see how he handles this off season. Because when those ankles are feeling good, he's such an incredible player. It's tough he's letting his injuries effect his confidence.

:o

How on earth could anyone have predicted that he'd fall off this hard? If you truly believed beforehand that this would happen, then hats off to you.

He really didn't fall all that hard. He was a system player in Utah and overrated right from the start.

I guess nobody .

I think NY would go for him even with Phil on board, especially if Melo signed off on it.
They have to do ANYTHING they can to keep Melo around, and if this would get it done, they should do it.

Something like Amar'e + Shump + Felton + Next heavily protected 1st they can deal for Deron
PHI would take Amar'e + Shump + pick for Young, J-Rich
BRK gets Young, Richardson, Felton for Williams

Brooklyn adds depth, NY trys to improve, PHI adds assets

The simple fact is that Deron is done as anything more than a serviceable starter (if he's motivated he can be your #3 option and be a good one).

As a point guard who could no longer play the game I wanted to after battling ankle injuries, I can say with certainty his days as an elite PG are done....unless he gets ankle transplants or something.

Deals like that are why NYK is in the position they are in to begin with. That is a short-sided trade and trading away more assets for a has-been or highly paid player who doesn't perform to his contract will continue that pattern.
