Randle Wiggins and Parker were all supposed to be epic players coming out of that draft class -- to me only Wiggins has shown signs of greatness but I hope to be proven wrong

now is only 21 year old Averaging 14 and 9, can only get better after this....if you seen him play you can tell he has grown on the defensive side...
I'm sure he's better on the defensive end, but I think Walton's scheme is helping him a TON on that end.
Isnt that what a coach is supposed to do though?
How many players have been brought to life by the San Antonio system but nowhere else? (Belinelli, Danny Green, off the top of the head)
I've got no problem Walton.
I've got a problem with people anointing Randle the second coming of Karl Malone after a couple weeks of unsustainablely high FG% at the rim.

Weird part is his 0-3 feet shots are amazing, usually he takes the shots he knows he can make or gets fouled in the process, but his close range is terrible. He still doesnt have the touch and smarts to finish non-layup/dunk attempts. His midrange is coming along day by day you can see it from his FT shooting stroke. The misses are usually when he rushes the shot. On the defensive side he is better at helping but there are plays where he could easily take a charge or contest but he doesnt even try. But atleast he showed improvements in every asset of his game, that's all Lakers fans ever asked and some of Lakers fans like me expected.

Unless I'm going blind here you are the first person to mention Karl Malone in this thread. That bias is showing through quite easily.

He is modling his game after Draymond Green without kicking people in the nuts!

Using him as a switchy center is a good move by Walton and unlocks Randle's game as a mini-Draymond Green. But if Green was a medicore defender who couldn't really shoot... he wouldn't be all that good.
If Randle continues to improve his shooting and D I think he can be a good starter, but not a star. If he doesn't take those big steps forward he can still be a viable rotation player, but not a core starter on a good team.
We aren't saying Julius is going to be a super star.
But it's special to average a double-double. Only 8 other players did it last season. And not all those other guys can dribble, pass, and run the break.
And at age 21 he has already had some triple doubles. That's pretty cool. Luke said he sees 3 players in Randle. He said they are Green, Odom (never was an all-star) and Randolph. I think Randle is already a good starter. And he is getting better.

His game actually reminds me a little of Antwan Jamison.

Re: Julius Randle is ballin' out
Dude will be an all star in 2-3 years. His combination of strength, speed, ball handling and passing is rare. He's a terror in the open court and with his increasing court awareness plus waltons coaching he'll be a star in this league.

Parker was robbed of a year with the ACL injury, but he's been impressive this year.

he also doesnt back down to anyone. there's a reason other players think highly of him. he can def be a perennial double double guy in this league.

Re: Julius Randle is ballin' out
Coming out of college and watching him last year I didn't think much of him, but he's totally transformed himself this year. He's playing within the flow of the game now, making smarter plays, and playing in control. He's one of the best drive and kick guys in the league, and in the top 4 in the NBA in isolation.
While it's a small sample size, Randle has shown flashes of becoming a star. He has an elite first step, and there aren't many guys stronger than him.

Not the best defender at the rim still but his Randle's handles and passing at that size make him formidable on offense.
Another guy I like on that team is Tariq Black. Dude is like a 21st century Charles Oakley. Trade him to Knicks please.

Jabari missed his first year basically and he's averaging 19.1/6.2/1.8. Randle missed a year and his stats are above that. All three look good already.

He really needs to develop a jumper to keep defenses honest. Teams will just keep sagging off him. His FT's have improved dramatically so hopefully the jumper will follow soon

Re: Julius Randle is ballin' out
I'm in Cali so if I want my basketball fix without league pass I'm watching mostly Laker games as a result. That being said I have been impressed with Jules' improved decision making in the open floor this year. I was skeptical about the whole "use him like Lamar" idea that was tossed around last year because I didn't think he could be trusted in a decision making capacity. This year however I'm seeing a much better paced Randle who makes the right decision on a grab and go more frequently than he has in the past. There are still some moments where I question what the thought process was on a particular trip but it's nowhere near as frightening now as it was before.
Sidenote: How good of a coach, players guy, and motivator has Luke Walton been this year. I've been very impressed with how he's handled the team and his empowerment of players this year. The strides in complete game we've seen this year from Randle, Young, Williams, D-Lo, Black, and the confidence he keeps instilling in Ingram has been refreshing to see. Regardless of talent he has those guys playing hard and playing for each other and its pretty easy to see what kind of difference it's making on the court.
