You guys gotta realize he has a degenerative quad injury. It's only gonna get worse as he ages. He is already 28 and close to his 30's best for him to play it as safe as possible so he doesn't shorten his prime years or his career.

I don't really mind. If they think seeding in the western conference isn't extremely critical, then they don't know what's coming to them. It's not so easy to get away with it. I have no problem with teams resting their players, just think it's stupid of them to do it against teams it will cause them to get a L against.

Would love to see any of the brave souls around here tell Kawhi he has to play a random regular season game when he doesn’t want to and then explain to your owner why Kawhi demanded a trade because you got into a pissing match with him. Or be the league demanding a player play when he says he’s hurt and then the guy actually suffers a major injury.

No doubt with the tv deal it’s tough but a big part of dealing with high level talent is picking your battles.

Yes, the NBA should change its scheduling to accommodate Kawhi's load-management days off.

Not just Kawhi, but in general B2B's shouldn't even exist anymore, ESPECIALLY on national TV. Clippers have B2B today then B2B first thing next week. Their 3rd set already. Too much. They have 3-4 days off in between, which is too much rest as well.

If they beat Portland they are 6-3... Vs the 2nd toughest schedule so far and without PG. Not a big deal for seeding. In fact I thought they would be lucky to start 5-5

If you get rid of back to backs then you would shorten the spoiled millionaires summer breaks so they can only go on 3 trips instead of 5. I don't think theyd go for that.

Kawhi barely made it through the playoffs last year after playing 60 games in the regular season. The Clippers would be fools to let him play 70+ games this regular season even if he wanted to. It’s all about that ring. And if you are gonna sit out a game why not avoid giving a look to your likely Finals opponent whose head you’re already deep inside from the previous year?

I think this was a myth put out by Spurs fans. Otherwise why would he sign a 2 year deal rather than a full 4 year max?

Not really. You slot these games in where teams inexplicably have 3-4 straight days off. Schedule makers need to improve if they want to minimize this. Or cap B2B's at 5 per year etc.

Na I really think it's real watching him play all last season. The 2-year contract is so he could sign a higher max contract once he hits 30 I believe. I forget what the percentages are but he will be able to make more money if he waits it out then signs a new 4-year max which will be a higher percentage of the cap then what he got right now. So he does have to play it safe for that aswell.

Kawhi has a chronic condition. Anybody complaining at this point is an idiot.

The nba should be allowed to flex games

Just look at what they have tonight

Warriors bench playing in first game and Kawhi less clippers in game 2
On Curry declining

you can still have good games in the decline, look at kobe's last game in his career

ossification of his quad, correct? not sure if i remember it right.

at the end of the day he's got a chronic condition. he's doing what's best, not just for his long-term health, but for his ability to play his best when the stakes are the highest.

if he plays every game on the schedule it's taking away from both of those. and even if he's a healthy scratch, that doesn't mean these games off don't optimally preserve him. every game he plays chips away from his health. every game he sits allows him to recover.

who the **** cares lol

trade for demar derozan, lamarcus aldrige, andre drummond, westbrook, etc. if you want a guy who is going to give you great regular season stats and play in big regular season games

or - you can a few times a year not see that player play, and see him dominate all playoffs long and in the finals

how on earth could anyone be upset about this

nba-wise, back to backs should literally not be a thing. every year since they started reducing back to backs i find it to be somewhat bittersweet. like yes, that's what you want to be doing, but why the half-measure? do what's best for the players and the game.

82 games is a long, long season, and if the league wants to see some of these guys play more, or at their best then don't put them in situations where their team sits them out, or where they're susceptible to fatigue and injury. it's better for the stars, and consequently it's better overall for the league.

Kawhi and the team knows the TV schedule. Resting on a nationally televised game is stupid and irresponsible. Rest any other game - hell for multiple games if necessary.

Maybe the Ilyasovas of the world can run into Kawhi shooting 3s in the future as a lesson for that.
