Are you a cop? Part of police oversight committee?

If not, your opinion means nothing when it comes to critiquing these officers. You do so from a chair, behind a screen, without a clue — other than maybe you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

You weren’t there, don’t know the entire story or understand how law enforcement works (unless you are a cop).

If your point is should both Hayes and Cops done better? Of course. But we should let the professionals learn from their actions in a way that actually makes them better. Not the court of public opinion.

Hayes needs to embrace change too — also step up and use his “popularity” (cough) to impress upon others like him who want to be violated by blue and become infamous, that isn’t right either. Maybe a campaign how obeying and following commands makes for a better citizen to cop outcome.

They told him several times, over and over, to cooperate and not enter the house.

Hayes in turn tries to get in the house, shoves the police, and tells them they are lucky they have a gun or he would beat the **** out of them.

Tell me what you would do instead if you were the cop here?

I'm guessing our different perspectives are painted by our different experiences with police. I'm willing to bet there are many others here like me who have been involved in a physical altercation with police. And maybe others who have been saved by a police from danger. From my perspective, they were too quick to try and cuff him and really escalated the situation. Just my opinion.

I think that's fair. I'm actually one to usually defend the police but I watched a YT video this morning of a cop murdering a poor dog in Colorado who just wanted to play and became enraged. It's always good to try to approach things from the other side

If his lawyers manage to get him a nice plea deal he should take it and learn from this. He would've made his life 100x easier if he had just been calm and followed the instructions of the officers, who all things considered handled it well.

That said, American cops are dumb and combative. Cops kept escalating things. Like they’re grown men and they don’t have the patience or skills to talk to a scared, immature, defensive college kid. He literally looked like he just wanted to go and hide in his bedroom. They just kept grabbing at him and trying to physically control him. Bloody Morons.

not easy for cops having to deal with uncooperative, low IQ, sociopaths on the regular, many of whom are criminals or high on drugs that wish them harm. I genuinely believe most of these cops have PTSD as it's an impossible job so I'm not surprised some lose their grip. It's a tough situation all around. What I AM convinced of is, if everyone simply complied, for the most part, there'd be way fewer instances like this.

The irony here is that we're on a basketball forum critiquing professional basketball players about how they do their job. It's not lost on me...
