Would a pre-injury, Arvydas Sabonis go ahead of victor in the draft?

I imagine no, but thats a great question. Victor is just far better prospect on defense I think.

This is a good comp. Depends on era IMO.

I think Sabonis offensive potential was significantly higher though, even if he never reached it.

For sure, but I think former poster nailed it, it depends on the era. In the 80s, what would Victor have defended, guy doesnt have old man strength, Sabonis, even skinny Sabonis was pretty strong, he would have been seen as lock down defender in the post. Nowadays, many guards would play Sabonis of the court, even young SAbonis that is. And this is where Victor comes in, Victor is far from being switchable big, but he is still better than Arvydas ever could have been.

His prime years were spent playing for the USSR. Is that what you mean?

Wouldn’t say that at all. All the stories about Aryvdas exaggerated or not is in some form true. There is footage out there of a young Sabonis against DROB in the Fiba Finals (both named 1st team, also some really famous names outside of the NBA played too).

I think young Sabonis was quick enough to do well even today, the older one would have much more problems though. It's not like every single big man can be played off the floor. Some centers could and do adjust to that, even though they are not switchable.

I am Lithuanian, I know how good Arvydas was, but I think Victor is still just an ideal prospect for this day and age, he is Bill Russell level prospect on D, kid could average 5 blocks per game, seriously. On the other end, he is far from Arvydas, but even despite him kind of sucking in Europe (he doesn't suck anymore, but he still have ways to go), you can see the ability and I think he is one of those rarer players who will find far more easy to score in the NBA, Giannis like.

I do have reservations at his height though. He’s legit 7”3 and much taller than Porzingis, he could end up as Sampson 2.0. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen but history is history players at that height can’t carry extra weight and play at a high level let alone NBA. Kareem is a different story he took a sound approach prioritising aerobic conditioning over weights. The only one I can think of was Wilt and he also had a major career ending injury but was still awesome after the fact.

Yeah that's what they say VW does, reportedly he hasn't lifted any weights yet, just focusing on flexibility, learning how to land safely, aerobic exercise, and basketball skills. I think it's a good idea.

From the bottom of my heart I want the Spurs to draft him. Just a feel good story of the Duncan successor.

I don't know. If Michael Jordan was 5'11" would he be the greatest ever?

If Damian Lillard weighed 300lbs, would he be as good as he is today?

He would be Isiah Thomas, which is how Chuck Daily would describe Zek
