That's what I been trying to say all along Reeves is a good player on a great contract but clearly not a star.

Laker fan base is huge so the number of dumb delusional fans is high.

Lakers fanbase is enormous so undoubtedly there will be some morons amongst us. I think the more experienced fans with even a shred of brains didn't assume Reaves would turn into some all star. But he's a damn good rotation player who can be that 4th guy on a championship team.

I mean, the more nuanced debate took all that into consideration. Austin Reaves is unlikely to become a better player than guys who are lower fringe all star candidates, but he does play for the most popular team in the world and has things about him that could make him a particularly popular player (white everyman look about him). Given that the All-Star Game is partially down to fan voting, it's possible that he could sneak in that way. Given that the fan voting is only for starters, though, it still seems unlikely.

Is there a world where he averages 20/5/5 this year? And if so, does that mean he can be an all-star level guy? Even if he *doesn't* actually make the team because the league is too loaded with guards? If so, that could drastically impact the Lakers ceiling. I think LeBron was fairly hobbled in the playoffs, but if healthy, I'm confident taking him over most guys, as he was still an All-NBA guy during the postseason this year. AD was very impressive too, and he's still top 10. If Reaves can be a top 30ish guy, that moves everyone down into even more comfortable roles. D. Lo's inconsistency is no longer much of a problem as he's probably a really good fourth option for a championship team. Then there's still Rui and Gave Vincent. Either way, Reaves should have a bunch of confidence coming into the season, and his abilities give the lakers a super high ceiling.

Austin Reaves mere presence on the world cup team is why team USA didnt medal. The only reason anyone has even heard of him is that he plays for the lakers and has been gifted an ungodly amount of free throws (the disparity for how many the lakers took last season vs the rest of the league is criminal)

Before Reaves shooting and scoring got attention, his defense and being a good defender was mentioned quite a few times. So in a season and a half he was thought to be a good on ball defender to now being targeted on defense. I'd say it's somewhere in between

I don't get it, the verdict is out after a single regular season game in his third year? If y'all rooted this hard for your teams the way you root for random 25 year old athletes to fail, the media would probably overhype some of your team's players too.

I'm honestly not trying to troll Laker fans but he put up another horrendous performance. 1/12 shooting overall.

He was benched late tonight, it seemed.

His regression is part of why the Lakers look mid-tier at best, IMO.

It really looked like he was going to be a key piece, and now he's...whatever he's doing.

He's a G-League star/NBA 10 day contract player.

He's a poor mans Grayson Allen, without the defense.

I have never been so dumbfounded when the Lakers gave him that contract, and all their fans were hyping him up. He' 'll be out of the rotation by the end of November, and they will ship him off with a couple fo picks to make room for a buy-out player in the new year.

The fourth year of his contract is a $15m player option?? For a player that should have been happy to sign a two-way contract!!!!
You just can't make this **** up!! The most boneheaded contract ever signed in NBA history.

Is that what you think having a heart attack is? Discussing a player not in an overly positive way is a heart attack??

Low IQ posts give me a heart attack, might need to check the defib is powered up if you're going to keep posting.

His hype was ridiculous. I still don't get how he ended up being on Team USA.

Not overly positive? Saying someone’s “just ok” or “could improve” is not overly positive. My opinion of Austin Reaves (overhyped role player) is not overly positive…

You’re calling this man the worst contract signing in NBA history after 3 games… I think that’s a step or two beyond “not overly positive”

It's 3 games with bad shooting. I can promise that he will not be a 30/25 shooter for the season.

Damn, really seems like there were some people just waiting for Reaves to have a bad start to pounce. Little bit weird but ok.
