We will 100% include Brooks in our celebration. I love that this Canada team has dogs including Brooks because the narrative on us is that we are always too soft.

Walkup has been the worst player at the Olympics so far. Greece either needs to bench him for Toliopoulos or Larentzakis, or give him just a few minutes of a chance, and if he is the same as the first two games, bench him. Calathes should be benched for Toliopoulos or Larentzakis also, if he plays like he did in the first half in the Canada game.

If Walkup didn't play in the first two games, Greece is probably 2-0.

I never thought Canada's teams in the past (2010s) were physically soft, but they absolutely did seem to be mentally soft. They almost always seemed to choke close games away.

Excellent game Aussies. Really intense. You deserve to advance. Rooting for you guys…. now.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

2024 Olympic BASKETBALL Thread (Pt.3)

Post#248 » by durden_tyler » Tue Jul 30, 2024 1:44 pm

Triple tie scenario for Group A; If Spain beats Canada and Australia beats Greece

Spain: -12 (vs AUS) X vs Canada (X -12)
Canada: 10 (vs AUS) X vs Spain (10 - X)
Australia: + 12 (vs SPA) -10 (vs CAN) (+2)

X = 11

So Canada is out of the Top 2 if they lose by 11 or more. Just avoid the complication if they outright win vs Spain.

Aussie cheering for Canada,
Greece cheering for Canada too but they must beat Australia*

Canada is going to beat Spain. They are winning this group with Murray playing like absolute poop. If he even plays a bit to his standard, they are going to medal.

Crucial that they do and do it big. Currently they are just +17 after two wins and might have to face the US early (semifinals) as Germany/France have easier games

Yeah facing the USA early seems very likely IMO, which kind of blows for my hopes of a North America gold medal showdown. Not that a potential bronze wouldn't be a huge accomplishment for a team that hasn't made the Olympics in 24 years, but expectations are high for this group if they can hit their stride.

It's very easy in FIBA tournaments for the best and/or second best team in the tournament to end up anywhere from 3rd to 5th in the standings. Because if you get a bad matchup, or just have a bad game or off game in the quarters or semis and lose, that's a 5th or 3rd place finish at best. A lot of times in these tournaments, the team that gets silver isn't even a top 3-4 team at the tournament.

I mean, thats the case for every single sport. In every sport, if you get a bad matchup in the Quarters and lose, you will only finish 5th

Yeah, but the point is that coming from like US sports media, they make it seem like the gold medal game is the two best teams. But that's often just not how it works with these formats.

Can Japan make this close? Cover the 16.5 spread? O/U also set at 164.5.

Juancho "Bo Cruz" Hernangomez has for the most part, been a mostly useless player for a long time now. And Usman Garuba...

It's amazing how much worse their bigs are besides Aldama, even Willy, from their previous generation.

Anyone that follows European basketball knows to never count out Spain, even with their weakest rosters.
