Walkup has lived and worked in Greece for several years, his partner is Greek, and under Greek law, he is legally eligible for citizenship, whether he played basketball or not. He's the first non-Greek / diaspora player they have used in the national team. Adding a non-Greek to the national team was a response to Spain naturalizing Lorenzo Brown. But Greece didn't want it to be a mercenary free agent add like Brown or Bo McCalebb - that type of a player naturalization.

So Walkup, that has been in Greece for several years, plays in one of the Greek EuroLeague clubs, has a Greek partner, and is legally eligible for Greek citizenship, even if he didn't play basketball, was the one that they naturalized.
