I read somewhere that the NHL had greater attendance than the NBA for the past 10 years.

nhl, nba, mlb agree to donate 10 percent of their salaries to the cause

total salaries

mlb 2.654 billion
nhl 1.579 billion
nba about 2 billion

6.233 billion

623.3 million dollars.

if the nfl was there too it would be about 900 million.

and about China. how are they wealthy ? another economic collapse would decimate them and their average salary might not have even reached 5000 dollars a year yet. 150 million people making about a dollar a day means there's still a lot they have to take care of at home.

Yes, expecting every member of three large, separate industries to donate 10% of their salaries to a charity for people that live in a different part of the world than them is completely realistic and definitely merits discussion.

China has a lot to take care of at home? Undoubtedly. So do Americans, though. And Europeans. And the overwhelming majority of the rest of the world.

Americans, as a whole, are trapped in an ever-intensifying ****storm of both public and private debt. If predominantly American institutions are going to be donating 10% of their salary to anything, you better believe it is going to be a domestic cause.

Ok so I read through these posts and see a couple people question ask me what I have done. Go check on the Raptors thread and what I wrote there about this.

As for you scum bags who want to question me, I will give you the satisfaction of answering your question. I am Puerto Rican, my Brother is Puerto Rican, my brothers children are Puerto Rican/Haitian, the many of the Haitian family members are down in Haiti right now. My brother is in the National Guard and is trying to get to Haiti.

My neighbors are Haitian and I constantly ask what have they heard? How is their family doing and the updates on the missing and lost family members.

I have done plenty also with supplies and I'm going to take a hit on my next cell phone bill with the donations I have been doing. I have sacrificed quite a bit to help. I know if a situation like this happened in Puerto Rico I would love for people to step up as much as I have.

Also for those questioning me I suggest you check my track record. I'm what you would call a human rights activist/humanitarian. It has nothing to do with financial class or racial class, or gender class. It may not seem it to you but in my eyes when someone needs help you help them. That is what I do. From battered mothers, Rape victims, Immigrants, Gay & Lesbian rights, modern day slave labor, Dafur, Katrina, Donating clothes to Tijuana,Columbian earthquake in the late 90's, sending supplies and money to places of devestation, that is what I'm about. So grow up punks, and learn what is important. If it's a dollar you send it's appreciated, but do what you can. Before you question my track record I suggest you check yourself bitches. I'm sure the weekly supplies and the $50.00 a week Im sending down to Haiti hits my pocket far more than the $1 Mill the NBA sending.

Human life is in need. A country needs to be rebuilt. So rather than tryin to help some dare question my position in this thread? Get off your ass and do something productive, explore the world, it may help some of you spoiled bastards out.

And realgm as a community forgive me for my rudeness. But someone has to speak for those who can't come on this board and say something.

BLKOUT wrote:This thread is stupid. You always hear people saying "Oh I can't believe they only donated X amount of dollars, I just gave $50 myself. It might not be much but it's the best I could do!" Consider that person makes $30,000 a year, $50 is 0.16% of their yearly salary. Then they criticize professional athlete x for "only" donating $10,000 when he is making 7 million a year which is 0.71% of their yearly income. a much bigger chunk out of their yearly wage than the initial person.

Anyway, don't donate to Wyclef's thing he's a crook.

The players can give away 50% of their income and still be set for life, whereas we still have to work. There's a big difference.

How do you know that? You don't know what their lifestyle costs to maintain. Whether it's excessive or not is not relevant. If you were making $30 thousand a year you could probably live off 15k of it if you budgeted, does that mean you should? You live how you want and spend what you want. The more money you make the more money you spend, and when it comes down to it they can give whatever they want. If you were working full time and donated $20 and an NBA player donated $20, you'd complain and say he has millions of dollars he should give more etc... but if an unemployed person on welfare gave $20, should he then turn to you and say you have more money you should've given more? Donating to charity is a choice, not an obligation.

Is that your excuse?

Maybee you should step up your game or get out of the conversation. It's not about money, it's about what put in. Go to the local donation center and volunteer an hour a week. Donte $2, send bottled water or a can of corn in. Whatever it is, just do it and make sure you can do the best that you can in it.

Don't try to say my halo fell off Judas, put your time, money, unparishables, extra clothing, where your mouth is.

Don't make excuses young man, just do it. And take that avatar off of a man wearing stunner shades when you are talking to a grown man. It's time to talk business young man. So I challenge you, and I ask you what have you done?

Young man remember you are in a position to help people, you want to bash me fine, I'll take that, shut me up though, donate your time, money, whatever, just try to help out these people young man. This may be able to help you step up to maturity and help. Hell for what you know a a can of corn may keep one of the many orphans left behind alive for an extra day. A 50 cent can of corn man. Think about it before you answer chump.

And here is my next thing. Shut me up! Make me shut up people. Instead of trying to attack me, make me shut up. Do what you can to make me shut up. Make me shut my mouth on your punk ass chumps, who dare question my agenda, knowing majority of you did nothing. YOu don't even have to say what you did. Learn from this comecialisim and join them, Imposible is nothing, Just do it, thats the answer.

Cool it with the personal insults and language. Consider this your last and final warning.

Wow.

Obviously your doing a good job, but the way you've just conducted yourself makes you look like a total ass. Many people have done or been in the same situation as you, but they don't go around gloating and then harassing other people. You of all people, should be thankful that the NBA donated $1 million. Not to mention what the players, coaches, owners are contributing. Zo and Dwade alone raised $800,000.

That is directed at the people who want to question or talk ****. They want to talk, so let them walk the walk also. I made the opening post and I'm making another post now, step up. Like I said, shut me up. Am I greatfull of course I am. Is it sad that people try to do nothing then try to down grade the people who are putting in the blood, sweat, money, time and tears into this?

If they have a right to talk **** about us, we are going to challenge them and say step up. Simple as that. Either step up or shut up. People are dying, lost family members, children are orphans, and this is the type of crap people want to talk question? Reall?

Like I said, make any excuse you want, it's just that an excuse. A pathetic one. A one dollar donation for every post made in this thread would make a difference. But no, people question this post but praise Adam Morrison stealing a high five, or Lebron farting in the wind to the left, or Kobe and a Dunk, Shaq and his dunk contest comments. Obviously, that is more important than trying to help people. I bet most people trying to crap on this thread have done nothing at all to help HUMANS!

So like I said, you want to step up and talk ****, walk the walk, if not be an ostrich and duck your head. Because the back claw may be dangerous, can be immobilized.

You're contradicting yourself. You made this post bagging the NBA about only giving $1 million. Myself and others stood up for the NBA as they are doing a fantastic thing by giving money and so are all the other NBA teams around the league. Just like we don't know what you've contributed (well we do now after you rant), you don't know what others like myself have contributed. Most people were having a go at the member "pops" anyway not you. But LOL you trying to step up on an internet forum acting all big. BIG LOL.

As you can see in the first line, I said I was doing them a favor by answering their questions and doubts. They called me out, so now I call them out. If they didn't like the answer, they should maybee do more and shut me up.

Take the stunner shades off at the door and step up young man. I call you young man out of respect also. Because I beleive that you can make difference here young man. It's up to you though if you would like to. Will you be willing to send down some clothes that you don't use or go to a super market or dollar store and purchase some items to send down to Haiti, or would you like to continue to go back and forth with me?

For some reason young man, I think if you want to you know what the real answer is. Get back to me tomorrow and let me know what your answer is on that. That decision will seperate the man from the child.

Flash I'm sure you can tell this is a sensitive issue for many right now. You may want to read the last post I made also to the person who I quoted. My appologies for going a bit strong in this topic but I do have a bit more vested into this then a few others do.
