Markkanen is so freaking clutch, too bad the Bulls don't want wins.

That was game of the tournament so far. Markannen handed his country a win by forcing two overtimes and playing overall good game, especially in the clutch.

I want to point out that this is NOT normal. Young players don't usually get the playing time, let alone the carte blanche to decide games at FIBA level. Doncic and Markkanen are a bit of an exception, not the rule.

Yeah, what Markkanen is doing is anything but normal. Dončić was great today too but Markkanen has done the exact same thing in all 3 games. His statistics are crazy but what's even crazier is how clutch he is. He asks for the ball at the end of the games, he hasn't missed a big FT and he forced two overtimes today. The only time he screwed up at the end was yesterday against Randolph.

20 year olds aren't supposed to be that consistent.

lambchop wrote:Giannis would be difficult to defend and his defense would be a game changer, however, yea greece really does lack shooting this year. Imo giannis would have limited either dragic or doncic in this game and greece would have won.

To me the most impressive players so far have been dragic and markkanen, who looks like he has a lot of potential, still very raw but he could be very legit in about 4 to 5 years
I still don't understand how finland got "so good" at basketball. I can remember playing against teams from finland about 10 years ago and they were pretty terrible.

so, you are surprised how they are not what they were ten years ago. they ve been preaty solid for a few years now.

UcanUwill wrote:That was close, but Slovenia and my bet escaped Greece behind heroics of Dragic and Doncic. Doncic with the best game so far (22/5/3)
As expected, Greece can't shoot 3s. Papagiannis played a very good game, but Greek coach didn't trust him to finish game. Randolph was pretty terrible I thought

Markannen looks like a star in the making. Dirk like fallaways. Even did a nice step through two defenders on one of them for an easy layup. Bulls fans should be excited.

He is around 6'8. Can play 4 positions.

He's not 6'8", but could grow another inch at his age I suppose.

The Dirk comparison is overused but Markkanen is one of the few that actually shows glimpses of Dirk's game.

He looks around 6'8 to me. Look, he is the same size as Edo Muric pretty much, who is legit 6'8 and change

Yes they should be excited but they will be frustrated too. Actually Finland players use a lot their hands to push or grab players, as well during offensive than défensive sequences. So I guess he will be in foul trouble a lot of times at the beginning. Also, he tries to make blocks and this way he allows a lot of easy points. But once he will know to defend, Bulls fans will really love him and understand the steal that their front office did :)
