I said this on the article about LeBron wanting to buy the future Vegas team, but I personally think the NBA needs to put a team in one of Baltimore, Cincinnati, or Pittsburgh (preferably Pittsburgh). They already all have NFL and MLB teams in those cities and Pittsburgh has an NHL team too

If LeBron is allowed to buy an expansion team and bring it to Vegas the league has to get any of his interests out of Klutch. I'd assume him and Rich Paul would sell and Paul would become the GM

Deeper protections this time?

I don't think they would need to. Honestly looking over players under contract and RFA's, I think if they maxed it at 7 players per team most teams would be fine, especially if you get to pull back the rest of your unprotected players after one is claimed.

Also, to add my two cents about people saying the talent in the league would diminish: No it wouldn't. Let me use a few examples.

1) We've seen this past season that there are a actually of a lot of guys either on the end of a bench in the 10-17 guys and in the G-League that can either get you a bucket or rebound well or just ball in general. We also have a bunch of overseas guys with previous experience like Mirotic, Mike James, and even Papagiannis has been playing really well, who could all possibly contribute in the league.

2) Even if you only add 4 more total draft picks, it allows more guys to be drafted. We've seen guys like VanVleet, Caruso, Austin Reaves, Dean Wade, Seth Curry, Javonte Green, etc not get drafted but still play huge roles in the league

3) Potential to add a third two-way spot to each team, adding 32 more two-way spots, further creating Reaves, Caruso, Wade opportunities for the undrafted guys.

Expansion and midseason tournament get wrapped up together IMO. 32 is just a perfect number of teams for an elimination tournament.

I still don't get why any player would want to play in a midseason tournament that doesn't financially incentivize them. Playing for draft picks makes no sense, because why would a player want to play to get his replacement? Also if it doesn't affect your record at all, what point is there to winning?

Maybe Maverick Carter will be the one running the team...

Lebron will buy it, should name it Las Vegas Queens.

I think it is a great place to own a NBA team and the Queens will attract a lot of good players

Think of the marketing purposes alone. Could bring in a whole new fan base with that team name.

Well it would be in their contract to play and part of the season. I'm guessing it will part of the 82 game season and will impact playoff rankings. Financial incentives are likely involved, not sure if lottery odds or picks are.

I made a thread on this but 32 teams, 16 to a conference. You play each team in their conference three times (15x3= 45) and each team in other conference twice (16x2= 32), that's 77 games. Then you play in a tournament 5 games to decide rankings 1 to 32 based on winners playing winners and losers playing losers. Gets you to 82 games. The 5-game tournament ranks teams 1 to 32 so you can have incentives run from 1 to 32 (financial and maybe lottery odds additions).

If Lebron is part of ownership group, they're gonna buy the rights to the Las Vegas Kings, haha.

nba should gift vegas lebron for free for his contributions. might as well give legm number 1 pick for next decade as celebration of a new team and gift stripper james harden to form a superteam.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

They probably go for a unique name for trademarking.. notice how random a lot of NBA brands are: Lakers, Clippers, Knicks, Jazz, Supersonics, Heat for a few a examples.

I'd go with something like the Neon or the Viva

No one went to the games in Vancouver. They had their shot and they blew it. Vegas is a much better option

The teams were awful and the sport wasn’t established in the country yet. That was 20 years ago now, the city has gained a lot of wealth and size since then, basketball in Canada is booming, and the ties to the Asian market are massive in Van City. Not saying it’s better than Vegas as an expansion option, just that it’s due to be given another shot.

Pretty easy one here Las Vegas Scorpions and give Seattle back their Supersonics. Scorpions and Sonics sounds nice for NBA expansion teams the Sonics never should have left Seattle.

Why would this be a consideration? If anything that would suggest that you don’t need to put another team in those markets since they’ve already got plenty of teams.

Seattle is a far bigger market than any of those, and it also successfully supported its nba team until it was hijacked. There’s really no reason there’s not a Seattle team now besides Clay Bennett’s scheming.

Vegas isn’t nearly as big, I guess the fixation there is that it’s a new and growing area that doesn’t have other teams around it. And it’s Vegas so people like going there I guess? In any case it’s not smaller than the places you listed.

The Lakers aren't a random name, it comes from Minnesota... land of the lakes. LAC used to be near San Diego bay area, and a clipper is a sailing ship. The Utah Jazz moved there from New Orleans. I'm sure the others have their own meanings too.

I really like this idea since it keeps the season at 82 games and the tournament seems inevitable
