Why? There's like a 80% chance that all three players don't make a final roster. And about a 95% chance that none of the three ends up better than Rui.

It's not that hard to find a second rounder who's more useful than Hachimura, especially if you get 3 cracks at it. Maybe LeBron will make him look good though.

Or is it just purely opportunistic?
(as in we can trade a useless player+second round picks for a better player so might as well do it even if the fit isn't great)

I don’t like the trade. But there is one caveat , the lakers draft people have been really good in drafting players , so if they like rui then maybe they see something the rest don’t

Damn you're really low on him. Even if you're right that it's not that hard to find a second rounder more useful (citation needed), those picks are in the summer, and then 6 summers from now. How does that help the Lakers now?

For Lakers fans just to note, Rui actually played some of his best ball when our PG was..........Westbrook!!!
With the Wiz, Russ kinda challenged him and basically called him soft and it paid some dividends.
Maybe with Russ and Lebron, Rui gets that extra push, plus he wanted out of WAS and we have a cluster of 3/4.

Good luck to him in LA, but it just adds to our list of lottery picks we just trade away. The beat dont stop!!!

What???

Pistons got bog for olynk

Clippers got Covington and Powell for nothing

We gave 3 seconds, including a second that’s like a late first (Chicago second)… no one got fleeced in this trade.

That is a trash package

Please note that the Lakers bought the right to draft a 2nd rounder from the Wizards to acquire Jordan Clarkson for 1.8 million. In essence they are still allowed to do this again per Ramona Shellburne.

Lakers have no strong need to make a trade before deadline now that they've fixed their rosters size problem.

Expecting they put out an offer of Westbrook+LAL27FRP(unprotected)+LAL26swap for several strong packages and just see if anyone bites at the deadline.

I think Lakers have taken back leverage by making this early trade.

There's still holes in the roster, but this staves off the boo boys until we know what the Lakers really need after AD comes back into the lineup

Damion Jones has been an afterthought at backup center and there's a still a real need for deadeye shooting to space the floor.

That's a Myles Turner sized hole waiting to be filled

2 of Lakers 3 best players are Cs (Davis and Bryant), so the Turner fit is clunky.

PF/C is stocked with LeBron, Davis, Bryant, Gabriel, Rui
SG is stocked with Bev, Lonnie, Reaves all being best there
PG is fine with Schroeder, Westbrook but a PG must come back if Westbrook is traded (FVV ideal)
SF still the weakest with Rui (a bit too big), Reaves (a bit too small), Christie (a bit too young)

Lebron, Rui and Troy Brown Jr will all get a share of Small Forward minutes. I’d still say our greatest need is an elite shooter from the wing position but if Lebron, Troy and Rui can be competent from distance they can still be competitive.

2019-20 Lakers only had KCP who was shooting at a great clip in the playoffs out of all the other role players. Danny Green, Kuz, Markieff, Caruso, Rondo etc weren’t great from distance in that run iirc.

If I’m coach Ham, I’m playing Rui with Lebron as much as I can. Stick them together because Lebron not only will get him open looks, he’ll give him the opportunity to play more one on one.

Every non laker fan right now - “horrible fit, what is LA doing”

Every non laker fan if Rui even plays somewhat decent for LA - “how much help does LeBron need?!”

He's going to get the non-Lebron minutes with Westbrook, and he's gonna like it

Bojan costs a lot more though is the big difference.

These are the kinda small deals that are HUGE for the Lakers. Now all they need is one more wing sized player and at least a backup level Center.

Know nothing about Hachimura but he looks the part. Just hope he has that dog in him, unrelenting and unforgiving to opponents. If he doesnt he will fail.

You will be...disappointed. I was Pro-Rui as a Wiz fan and wish him the best. But his two limitations will forever limit his ceiling, and his consistency.
1) BBIQ: The eye test and the Box score show this. Offensively, he can have spurts where is an absolute bucket. Overpowers smaller players and stretches bigs. His movement, mechanics, strength, size/length are VERY reminiscent of Kawhi... Just smooth.
But thats where it ends. He shows zero vision as a passer and poor spatial awareness. Teammates will constantly be pushing/guiding him as to where to be...infuriating. He doesnt draw fouls and constantly gives up open threes for mid-range jumpers.
Last year, the guy shot 45% from 3, but only had a TS of 58%... That shows how narrow his margin is for being efficient.
Defensively, he can be an absolute menace guarding his man. He wont block shots or garner steals, but he also doesnt foul. Unfortunately, he is a horrid team defender that is always in the wrong place or just a step slow.

2) Work ethic/Grind: Rui appears to be a "Solid" worker, but for a guy with his limitations he really needs to be a work horse to make up for it. He just seems disengaged at times and lets nagging injuries slow him down.

Go look at his last ~10 games and it gives you a pretty good idea of what you get. A couple of 25+ point games on really good efficiency, a few games where he is useless and gives you ~10 points on poor efficiency and nothing else. And then a few in between. The problem is the "In between" games look good at first (I.E. 15 points on 8-10 shots), but then you look and realize he gave you 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, and 0 blocks while playing 25+ minutes.
For a guy built like an absolute NBA Prototype Foward (Lebron, Kawhi, PG13, Pippen - 6'8, 230 lbs, 7'3 wingspan)... he can be completely invisible...

More like every non laker fan and Lebron hater - “Nobody wants to trade for the lakers poo poo platter role players, they’re awful”

Then after trade - “I can’t believe the lakers traded those guys, they are a bunch of idiots!”
